Most mandiblards drown or take heavy damage in the water, save for the Aquatic Sheargrub, which is similar to the modern-day pond skater insect that dwells on the surface of the water. They may not move fast, but these insects have an appetite for Pikmin and bridges, as well as other plantlife that falls in the water. Defeating Aquatic Sheargrubs from the shore requires that a Pikmin be thrown directly on top of their backs to flip them over in the water, where they will likely drown before they can right themselves. Otherwise, they are near invincible when fought under the water's surface. Because they are so similar to pond skaters, the Aquatic Sheargrub is like an ancient water predator that has changed very little over time compared to so many of the other creatures that inhabit the Pikmin planet.
