The Pulsar Flapbat is an enemy appearing in Pikmin V. It is strikingly close in appearance to the Fireflap Bulborb, and the similar name along with Brittany's notes on Flapbats specifically mentioning "initial confusion about their classification" further implies a connection and renaming of the Fireflap.

Notes

Brittany's notes

Flapbats diverged fairly early from the true breadbugs and the grub-dog mimics, leading to some initial confusion about their classification. They have traits of both that would become more specialized in either variant down the line, with breadbug-like eyes and feet but a body plan and diet closer to a grub-dog. Of course, species-specific adaptations have also occurred, which the Pulsar Flapbat is a great example of. Living in caves, it has little use for real eyes, so they have evolved into an eye-ear hybrid that echolocates with both sound and electromagnetic waves produced by the stalks themselves.

Olimar's notes

Be on the lookout for this creature's telltale glowing eyes in these two caves, as it doesn't attack immediately. Should you encounter one, a long blow of the whistle will distract it and direct it to the whistle's location, opening it up to an attack by Yellow or Winged Pikmin if smartly placed.

Louie's notes

Preheat your grill for this one. Carefully trim the wings, oil them generously, and place the body on a spit. Roast the body while frying the wings in a pan below them, letting them collect any juices or what not that falls off of the body. Finally, wrap the body back in the wings for a truly gourmet pigs-in-a-blanket experience.
