The Comicap is possibly the most unique member of the sporovid family in Pikmin: Dusk and Dawn and sports a bright red cap with white splotches on it, much like a Spotty Bulborb's rump. Its body is significantly plumper than those of most sporovids, and is much smaller, being only slightly taller than Olimar. One of its most noticeable features is the adorable face on its stem, having black shiny eyes and a cat-like mouth. When exploring, there's a chance for a Comicap to approach the leaders, quickly waddling around them and their Pikmin, as if it were playing with them. After a while, it will release bright red spores that confuse affected Pikmin, and the only way to regain control of them is to defeat the Comicap. However, the Comicap doesn't truly die, and revives with full health approximately five minutes after being taken out, serving as more of an adorable nuisance than an actual enemy. At nighttime, Comicaps will not be active, as they are afraid of the dark. They do not appear in raids either. In its Piklopedia page, the ship reveals its appearance is a byproduct of an evolutionary mutation, causing the Comicap to be stuck in its juvenile stage.
During the story's ending, it is shown that Olimar decided to adopt a juvenile Comicap. This alludes to his notes for the Comicap in the Piklopedia, stating that he hopes for it to be a good companion for his dog, Bulby.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “Comicap / Auctarium comoediae fungi / Sporovid family. Harmless, cute, great huggers, what more could you want? These adorable little critters, despite the fact they can merely confuse my Pikmin, are simply great stress relievers! Maybe Bulby could do with a friend...”
Louie's cookbook
- “It's a shame Olimar won't let me eat one. It looks like quite the plump specimen...”
Chacho's notes
- “Absolutely adorable! Everybody would want to get their hands on a plushie of one of these goofballs!”
S.S. Twilight's notes
- “The Comicap is a small creature that is a mutation of the sporovid family. Its particular mutation is a very unfortunate, but oddly humiliating one; when born, the Comicap never matured physically. It does age, however. Typically, a juvenile Sporovid should age and become much larger and older-looking, but due to its mutation, it stays as a juvenile physically. The small Comicap mainly feeds on plants and is very easy prey to most predators. It’s no surprise why it’s endangered. However, it can release spores that scramble the mind of a host for a short period, temporarily stopping it from eating the Comicap.
