The Jewel of Life is the final treasure in Pikmin: The After Years. This treasure is dropped by the final boss of the game, Dark Virus, after a lengthy and brutal boss fight.
The Jewel of Life is an ancient artifact that holds the universe itself in place. This object was kept safe in the core of the earth since time immemorial, but it was somehow stolen by Dark Virus in order to use its power to spread dark matter throughout the universe. As the Jewel is taken from its rightful place, the universe falls out of balance, causing distortions in space and time itself. The chaotic and unnatural Galactic Warpzone, the final dungeon, in which the Dark Virus resides, is an example of such a spacetime distortion.
Once Dark Virus is defeated, the Jewel of Life is restored to its place in the center of the earth by Olimar and his wife, and the universe is stabilized before any permanent damage is done.
