The Tanookimin is a species of Pikmin appearing in The President's Adventure. They are initially discovered through Animal Candypop Buds, but can also be propagated with the Animalist Incubator recovered from a certain cave. Animal Candypop Buds, which are rare to come by, have light brown petals with white stripes and can eject up to five Tanookimin before wilting and disappearing. The Animalist Incubator dispenses three to four Pikmin at the start of a new day after a Pikmin is placed into it. Because Animal Candypop Buds are so uncommon, Tanookimin are the second-rarest Pikmin type, with Skull Pikmin being the first.

Appearing to be wearing a suit resembling a Japanese raccoon dog, Tanookimin have no resistances of their own but can use the skin flaps between their arms and legs to glide forward in the air after being thrown far and can gain vertical height by jumping in the air when thrown a shorter distance away. An interesting characteristic of Tanookimin is that other Pikmin types can "wear" them as a second skin to temporarily gain the Tanookimin's superior throw distance and height and grant the Tanookimin that Pikmin's usual resistances. Throwing a Pikmin into an Animal Candypop Bud will cause the flower to eject that Pikmin with a Tanookimin on. Overall, Tanookimin are an optional Pikmin type that serve mostly to improve the capabilities of other Pikmin. Having one of each Pikmin type wearing a Tanookimin alone in a squad will result in them periodically singing the beginning of Super Mario Bros. 2's overworld theme.
