Raw material are collectible items that appear as light-blue pebbles. They are mainly found in piles, but can also be found from destroying obstacles, defeating certain enemies, or digging in dirt mounds. To collect them, they must be carried to the ship, with each Pikmin carrying one raw material. If not enough Pikmin are sent to carry all the raw material, they will walk back and forth between it and the ship until no more remain, upon which the involved Pikmin will wait at the ship.

Raw material can be used to obtain certain upgrades and items. However, their most important use may be converting them into clay for use in building structures, namely bridges, mounds, climbing walls, and valves, with one clump of clay being made from one raw material. When ordered to work on one of these structures, a Pikmin will travel to the ship, which will dispense a piece of clay for the Pikmin to use.

Blue sparklium is a currency appearing in Pikmin 2... Again?. It was first added in The Amazing New Update!! alongside customization as a permanent feature. Blue sparklium resembles normal sparklium, being generic, four-pointed sparkles, but is blue rather than yellow. Blue sparklium is earned in much higher amounts than yellow sparklium and is much easier to obtain. Blue sparklium is earned by completing days in Story Mode and the Meadow of Memory, in varying amounts by beating Timed Mode stages depending on the earned rank, and earning achievements. Blue sparklium is never used in-game, only to buy customizations.

It is possible to have negative amounts of blue sparklium; this is only possible after finding the Blower Pot in Mission 2. Instructions are as follows:

  1. Throw 66 Walking Golden Pikpik Carrots into the Blower Pot, causing a rainbow to come out of it;
  2. Throw another Walking Golden Pikpik Carrot into it, causing the rainbow to turn red;
  3. Throw yet another Walking Golden Pikpik Carrot into the red rainbow, making it turn ruby red;
  4. Have the Walking Ruby Pikpik Carrot be killed, causing some red sparklium to appear from where it died.

After collecting the red sparklium, the blue sparklium counter and its icon will turn red, and quickly tick down to the negative amount of the current amount of blue sparklium, with a minus symbol appearing behind it once it decreases beyond 0. Once all 4 reskins requiring negative blue sparklium are bought, the meter will return to normal with a flash of light.

In Pikmin: Antarctic Survival, raw material appears in the form of "chunks" of light-blue clay, which vary in size and therefore weight. Raw material chunks are the most common resource to be found when a creature is exploring an area, and can vary in size from small pebbles of clay with a carry weight of only one to massive slabs of clay which are larger than most boss creatures and have a carry weight of three hundred. Raw material cannot be used for buildings and other construction projects until it is carried back to the Diamond Settlement, at which point it will be broken up into individual pebbles of raw material similar to the ones in Pikmin 4. Larger chunks of raw material convert into more raw material resource pieces, but the ratio is not one-to-one. While smaller chunks with a carry weight of one or two yield raw material pieces equivalent to their weights, larger chunks experience "diminishing returns" and give a lower overall fraction of raw material pieces. A table has been compiled of all raw material chunk resource yields, as well as the yields of other resources.

Raw material is primarily used for the construction of buildings, but most buildings do not use raw material directly, instead making use of bricks, which many creatures can craft using raw material. Raw material is also used as a crafting material for a few other resources, such as insulated wiring and batteries.
