The Stubblefly is a mature species of whiskerpillar appearing in Pikmin Evolution, being the adult form of the Ravenous Whiskerpillar. It resembles a hybrid between a monarch butterfly and a dragonfly, with the wings of the former and the body of the latter, all sharing the younger form's red and orange color scheme. These creatures are a regular find in the swamplands they call home, often resting on some nearby foxtails or horsetails. However that belies a lightning fast predator as they will often quickly grab any small creature that gets in its line of sight, from something as small as a Golden Ujadani to something as big as a Dwarf Orange Bulborb, before slurping their bodies with their retractable proboscis. The film over their bodies allows them to survive underneath both water and acid making them stealthy foes in both environments. Like the Shearfleas and Pluckering Blinnows before them they don't immediately eat Pikmin, rather they will dart across the sky and dash across the ground rapidly, plucking up to three Pikmin with each dash, afterwards it will try to fly to someplace secure where it will eat each Pikmin one at a time. The fast speed of their dash attack makes them hard to dodge, so the best way to avoid them is to intercept where they may dash. Despite their great speed the Stubblefly lacks good maneuverability when it flies at top speed, essentially making it a flying dart. As such it is not very good at hunting very mobile prey, so it tries to eat slower prey instead. This means that if you keep being mobile around the Stubblefly it will begin to struggle to focus on a target, causing it to stall its attack, leaving it vulnerable to attack. The Stubblefly has low health for a creature its size, so taking it down isn't that tricky, however the speedy frame of the Stubblefly causes it to constantly scatter Pikmin as it flops on the ground, meaning you need more Pikmin to attack it than with a creature with a similar health pool. If you are still having trouble sniping the Stubblefly out of the air, then it would be a good idea to toss a cyan syrup in its general direction. The film does slow the freezing effect of the syrup at first but when it dashes it will freeze solid and shatter onto the ground, being killed instantly with no body left behind. Another good strategy is to lure it into dashing a body of water or acid, as while it won't drown it will flop around the surface of the body of fluid, leaving it vulnerable to each fluid's respective Pikmin type. Overall a rather dangerous foe, but one with a crippling weakness to exploit as well.
