The Rotund Exsanguinate is a bat-like creature appearing in Pikmin 5: Apex Predator. It is encountered in the Deep Navel, the farthest section of the Navel, the aboveground cave in the Ice Blanket. It is distinguished by the large stalagmite and stalactites that cover the area. While game difficulty usually changes the health of the enemy, here it changes the size of the Exsanguinate Colony. Easy will have 10, Medium 15, and Hard 20 Exsanguinates. As their boss fight is mandatory, their trigger weight is one Pikmin and their stomach weight is twenty.

It is encountered in the farthest reaches of the Deep Navel, the aboveground cave in the Ice Blanket, distinguished by the large stalagmites and stalactites that litter the area. While the difficulty usually alters the health of an enemy, for the Exsanguinate in particular it changes the size of the colony: 10 on easy, 15 on medium, and 20 on hard. As the boss fight is mandatory, their trigger weight is one Pikmin and their stomach weight is twenty.

When fighting the Exsanguinates, it is not recommended to bring Purple Pikmin in spite of their strength. Each Exsanguinate will only need to eat two to fill its stomach weight and if it flies off, the player will have to wait another day for the Exsanguinate to come back. A morbid solution to the boss fight uses this same mechanic, where the player can sacrifice enough Purple Pikmin to fight a smaller portion of the Exsanguinates at one time, making each fight easier. If the player wants to minimize casualties however, they need to move very slowly when entering the Deep Navel. Make sure to only wake up one or two Exsanguinates at the same time, and don't hesitate to leave the arena if too many have been woken up.
While engaged, a Rotund Exsanguinate will constantly fly above the player and their Pikmin, just out of reach of a throw, waiting for a reaction. Eventually, it will emit a sound wave and wait some more. If the sound wave contacts any Pikmin, the Exsanguinate will rapidly swoop down and devour them. Dodge the sound wave, and throw Pikmin onto the creature when it goes for the attack. Shortly after the Pikmin have latched on and begun pummeling it, the Exsanguinate will attempt to shake off its attackers, and it is crucial that the player does not whistle their Pikmin at this time, as the Exsanguinate will immediately swoop at the source of the noise. Instead, the player should whistle away from their Pikmin and at a stalagmite or stalactite, causing the Exsanguinate to swoop directly into it depending on its elevation. Afterward, the creature will slowly and awkwardly fly around the rock formation in a confused state. While the Exsanguinate is unresponsive, the player can whistle their Pikmin without fear of it swooping down at them and begin throwing more Pikmin onto it. If enough Pikmin are thrown onto it at this point, the Exsanguinate will crash to the ground at full speed, stunning it and providing a major opportunity to stun and perhaps even kill it.

When fighting an Exsanguinate, it will be constantly flying above the player so they cannot throw Pikmin at them, waiting for the player's reaction. Eventually, the Exsanguinate will shoot out a soundwave and wait. If any Pikmin walk into it, the bat will rapidly drop down and swoop to devour them. The player must get their Pikmin out of the way and throw them onto the Exsanguinate when it lowers itself. It will shake off the Pikmin after a second and the player may be tempted to whistle them back, but they must hesitate! If the player whistles to them, the Exsanguinate will track the whistle and swoop down on where the player whistled. Instead, the player should whistle in a direction so if an Exsanguinate was to fly in a straight line towards it, it would hit a stalagmite or stalactite. If the Exsanguinate is up high, make sure a stalactite is in the way. If it's low, make sure a stalagmite is in the way. The Exsanguinate will fly straight to it, and will slowly and awkwardly fly around the rock formation on the way to where the player whistled. The player should take this opportunity to whistle their previously thrown Pikmin back for real and throw more Pikmin on the Exsanguinate. If the Player is lucky, the Exsanguinate will crash into a formation at full speed and hit the ground, providing a major opportunity to swarm it. Rinse and repeat until half of the colony is dead.
Once half of the colony is dead, the remaining Exsanguinates will use their other attacks, drastically increasing the difficulty of the fight. They will occasionally emit an ear-piercing shriek, causing nearby Pikmin to run in fear, and vomit balls of poison that create poisonous shockwaves when they hit the ground. In addition, a rock formation will crumble to pieces with each death, limiting the player's ability to manipulate the Exsanguinates. At this point, there are two major strategies to employ against the Exsanguinates. The first involves Orange Pikmin, and the other involves White Pikmin. For Orange Pikmin, they should be used to deploy bomb rocks and be stationed around them. Naturally, the Exsanguinate will swoop towards the Orange Pikmin and be blown up by the bomb, all without risking the Orange Pikmin dying due to their immunity to explosions. Take the opportunity to swarm the Exsanguinate with the Orange Pikmin while it is collapsed on the ground. As for White Pikmin, they Exsanguinates' poison will be no threat to them, and their speed will help them dodge the creatures' attacks; additionally, if a White Pikmin is eaten, the Exsanguinate be poisoned.

Once half of the colony is dead, the remaining Exsanguinates will use their other attacks, drastically increasing the difficulty of the fight. They will start shrieking, causing the Pikmin to run in fear, and will start vomitting poison balls around that make shockwaves when they hit the ground. In addition, a rock formation will start getting removed with each death, limiting the player's ability to manipulate the Exsanguinates. From this point, there are two major strategies the player can employ. The first strategy is an Orange Pikmin strategy, the other is a White Pikmin strategy. If the player wants to go the Orange Pikmin route, the player should deploy bomb rocks with large groups of Orange Pikmin around them. The Exsanguinate will swoop towards the Orange Pikmin and get blown up by the bomb, without risking the Orange Pikmin dying due to their immunity to bombs. Take the opportunity to swarm the Exsanguinate with the Orange Pikmin while it is collapsed on the ground and repeat as many times as needed to kill the rest of the Exsanguinate. If the player wants to use the White Pikmin route, they should continue as normal. The Poison will be no threat to the White Pikmin, and their speed will help them dodge the Exsanguinates. Additionally, if any White Pikmin get eaten, the Exsanguinates get poisoned.
To minimize potential Pikmin casualties, move slowly and quietly through the cave and wake up only one or two Exsanguinates at a time. If too many have been awoken, fleeing the cave may be the safest option. In spite of their strength, bringing Purple Pikmin along to battle the Exsanguinates is not recommended, as each one will only need to eat two before becoming full and flying off, requiring waiting a day to fight it again. However, if necessary, this can be used to satisfy the appetites of only a few Exsanguinates at a time to make the battle easier, having to face fewer Exsanguinates at a time, but last much longer overall. Upon killing the last Exsanguinate, a cutscene will show it flying into a frenzy, crashing into the ceiling, and collapsing for good. The Botany Equipment will fall from the ceiling, and the third group of castaways will thank the player profusely while complimenting their skills in taking down the beasts.
