The Arenose Cannon Larva is a variant of the Armored Cannon Larva appearing in Pikmin V. It is functionally equivalent to the Arctic Cannon Larva, firing balls of sand rather than snow that can sweep Pikmin and leaders up and away, but it has the noticeable improvement of also being able to carry small treasures and knock Pikmin away from larger ones, as the sand ball will break into a wave on impact.
Notes
Brittany's notes
- “On the surface, its behavior appears to be nearly identical to that of its relatives, but the Arenose Cannon Larva's internal mechanisms are actually very different. It does not contain any metabacteria in its gut and in fact does not produce boulders at all. The sand balls it exhales are really just sand, which it collects when burrowing and spits out mostly just to get rid of it. The cooling air it intakes is used as described, for cooling itself in its arid environment. This environment also seems to make it even more prone to delaying maturation.”
Olimar's notes
- “Fortunately, this enemy cannot kill any Pikmin. However, it is still a huge pain for being able to whisk away large numbers of Pikmin and even the smaller treasures they carry, and knock them away from large ones. The species tends to make its burrow at the top of an incline, so utilizing any alcoves available to dodge one's projectiles may be necessary to reach and defeat it.”
Louie's notes
- “No matter what you do, sand perforates every fiber of this being. I tried deep frying, mashing and breading, even using it as toothpaste to get some exfoliating use out of it...”
