The Ravenous Whiskermoth is an enemy introduced in Pikmin V, and the adult form of the Ravenous Whiskerpillar.
Unlike most enemies, a Ravenous Whiskermoth does not spawn naturally; it only spawns at the end of a chain of events allowing a Whiskerpillar to mature. To do so, the Whiskerpillar must consume ten Burgeoning Spiderwort berries and survive until the end of the day. The next day, a Whiskercoon will spawn at the plant the Whiskerpillar last ate from. If the Whiskercoon survives for the entire day, the fully-grown Ravenous Whiskermoth spawn the next morning. Only one Whiskermoth can be active in an area at a time; any other surviving Whiskercoons will remain as pupae until the day after the Whiskermoth is killed. Additionally, if the Forest of Seeming region is left for three days (which respawns all enemies), a Whiskermoth will spawn in one of the three areas at random, with Whiskercoons spawning in the other two.
Due to its rare and complex spawning mechanics, the Whiskermoth poses a significant annoyance to any travelers to the area it resides in. It will fly around the entire area, seeking out Burgeoning Spiderworts and Nectar Posies that are growing. With its proboscises, it will eat the berries and nectar right off of the plants. Doing so also heals it for twenty health per berry or one-hundred health per nectar.
Notes
Brittany's notes
- “Due to the minuscule chance of a Whiskermoth ever reaching maturity, when one does, it goes on a feeding spree in order to keep up a brisk pace of laying eggs. It lacks any sort of defense mechanism, so one has to wonder why the adults, and the future of the species, aren't being killed off.”
