The Giant Sourdough Breadbug is a breadbug appearing in Pikmin: Elemental Speciation as the larger relative of the Sourdough Breadbug. As with most giant breadbug variants, it has more health than its smaller variant, as well as a larger size. It also has a harder shell, requiring more hits to destroy. Its shell has more rocks sticking out from it than that of its lesser relative, features small square outcrops resembling ore, and on its top bears three marks that resemble bread scores. In contrast to other giant breadbugs, the Giant Sourdough Breadbug is more round, resembling a loaf of sourdough bread, like the Sourdough Breadbug. Additionally, it burrows with any objects it has a hold of after four real-world seconds have passed, although only when no Pikmin have interfered with it for that long. After its defeat, any treasures it took become recoverable, but remain completely buried, requiring the use of White Pikmin, or a Green Pikmin host that can dig, to unearth them.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This larger subspecies of Sourdough Breadbug burrows deeper into the ground using its powerful legs. This allows it to re-emerge with a thicker, more powerful shell. The only conclusion I can make from this is that there was once a powerful species of creature that lived in these areas, pressuring this species into evolving such defensive traits.

Louie's notes

The tender meat can simply be cooked with your favorite spice blend with very little other preparation. If you're going for a green or umami palate, cooking and serving it in its shell after removing the bottom makes for an unforgettable presentation medium.

Shacho's notes

These shells are surprisingly protective for something made by alien wildlife. They could even work well as spaceship components if properly manipulated.
