The Purple Patterpillar is a caterpillar-like creature in Pikmin X: Deep Freeze that burrows in the ground. It moves along a predetermined route, often in a circular pattern, carving a trail in the soil behind it. It doesn't particularly care about Pikmin or leaders; even when it is being attacked, it will idly shake Pikmin off of its body without stopping or slowing down at all. Although the Purple Patterpillar has no means of harming Pikmin, any Pikmin caught in its path as it moves along will be planted in the ground and reduced to leaf-stage maturity.
