This page explains the early/prototype/unused content in Pikmin: Connection of the Worlds.

Unused Areas

route_1

This area is simply a white plain with several objects protruding out of the ground and collectible items. It was made to test the routes of objects being carried by Pikmin.

route_2

Much like route_1, except there are gates and other obstacles in the way. Again, it was to test the Pikmin's routes.

enemytst

This area was to test how enemies interact with each other.

hazard_test

Like enemy_test, this area was to test how hazards interact with each other.

obstacle_test

Similar to the previous two, obstacle_test tests how obstacles interact with each other.

map_1

map_1 was an area that had basic objects in a simple layout. This was to see how well most things would interact with each other.

polymap

polymap was a layout that tested the limits of an area's polygons.

Early Areas

Faraway Scorchlands

A vast, barren desert shown at E3, it has several oases and lots of desert. It eventually evolved into now what is known as the Distant Desert. Major changes include the addition of a mountain cave and the name change. The changing of "Faraway" to "Distant" was a reference to the Distant Spring from the first Pikmin game.

Dark Forest

A dark, creepy forest shown at E3. It had many monsters and was laden with traps. Fans speculate the idea was scrapped and was reborn as the Garden.

Unused Pikmin Types

Orange Pikmin

Orange Pikmin were to be an included Pikmin type in PCW. They were to be resistant to explosions, and were to be found in the Distant Desert. However, the creator removed them because he felt they would be obsolete. The Orange Pikmin even have a spritesheet created by the game's creator.

Silver Pikmin

Silver Pikmin were also another included Pikmin type in the game. Silver Pikmin could fly, and carry things in the air. They also had an ability to defeat ghost enemies, and would have been found at the Ancient Valley. They were removed because the creator said they would be too complicated.

Early Enemies

Ghostly Enemies

The Ghostly Bulborb, along with the Dwarf Ghostly Bulborb, the Ghastly Emperor Bulblax, and the Ghastly Empress Bulblax were some early enemies that were in PCW. However, with the removal of Silver Pikmin, these enemies became undefeatable; as such, they were removed.
