In Pikmin: Gold/Silver/Bronze, the Silver Pikmin is the second stage of a Gold Pikmin's life cycle, with Bronze Pikmin being the first stage. Its body is metallic silver and its petals are bronze. Despite having an Onion, Silver Pikmin can be obtained only by maturing a Bronze Pikmin, which they and other Bronze Pikmin can mine from the Cave of Origin. Comically, Silver Pikmin mine by rapidly spinning their bud like a drill, an ability that also can be used to penetrate weak walls. Silver Pikmin sink in water, and share the same Onion, which is ruby-colored and outlined in gold and seems to fly higher than other Onions, with Bronze Pikmin and Gold Pikmin. Before Silver Pikmin mature into Gold Pikmin, the Elders conduct a special ceremony called the Gathering of the Silver; during it, the Silver Pikmin of interest are each gifted one Bronze Whistle with which to command fellow Pikmin.
