Shearfin The icon used to represent this enemy.
Scientific name Himeagea cetocea
Family Mandiblard
Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Shearfin is a boss appearing in the Pikmin Resprouted Trilogy version of Pikmin 3, exclusively in New Mode, it replaces the Scornet Maestro in Twilight River. The three leaders follow a trail the White Pikmin detected using their eyes. They discover something buried in the dirt: the unconscious body of Louie. Suddenly, the Shearfin swallows his body whole, and the only way to save him is to kill the creature.

The Shearfin is the largest member of the mandiblard family, being similar in size to the Emperor Bulblax. It has an elongated body and has fin-like appendages on its body, giving it the shape of a shark.

Being very quick while underground, the Shearfin is invulnerable to any direct attack. Its arena features buried pillars that White Pikmin can raise up. After a pillar has been raised, the Shearfin must be coaxed into ramming into it, which will stun it temporarily. While the Shearfin is stunned, the soft parts of its main fin become exposed, and by swarming the fin it can be broken off. When the fin is broken, the Shearfin becomes enraged and begins to rapidly flap its side fins in an attempt to glide and attempt to impale Pikmin using its extendable tongue. To defeat it once and for all, enough Pikmin must be thrown onto its fins for it to crash to the ground and expose its weakpoints. After this phase of the fight, the Shearfin finally meets its end and coughs up Louie.

Olimar's notes

This creature is what we naturalists call a triphibian, a creature able to easily survive in land, sea, and air. This makes it an effective predator for smaller prey like Pikmin and Wogpoles. Its main flaw, however, is the fact that its fins can be easily broken, allowing predators to take advantage of its plight.

Louie's cooking tips

The meat is tender, especially the fins. Shearfin soup is a good choice when using these ingredients.
