Attacks Eats Pikmin

The Goliath Clamclamp is an enemy in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers. The giant clam of the snareshell family, its shell is smooth and blue and covered in green algae, and within its mantle is a dull pink foot holding a giant gleaming pearl encased in a watery membrane; a giant valve in its shell hides two long, worm-like tendrils that function as tongues.

The Goliath Clamclamp periodically opens and closes its shell every twenty seconds. It does not bother Pikmin, but if they try to attack the membrane concealing its pearl, its feeding tendrils slither from their valve. These tendrils try to coil around Pikmin within the oysnap's mantle and pull them within the valve, killing them. Worse still, if the Goliath Clamclamp's shell closes while Pikmin are attacking it, they are destined to become the bivalve's meal.

Taking the Goliath Clamclamp's pearl is done in the same way as a Pearly Clamclamp's own pearl, by attacking the membrane with Pikmin or leaders until it pops, sending the valuable pearl flying out. It continues to act normally even after the pearl is dislodged. Captains that are eaten will suffer damage and be ejected from the valve. If the shell is closed with a captain inside, it will reopen its shell to spit the captain out and reset its opening and closing cycle.

Notes

Olimar's notes

On my first visit to PNF-404, I found strange bivalves known as Pearly Clamclamps within a forest, where my personal transport ship, the S.S. Dolphin, first crashed. Its general family, the snareshell family, have been a weird case since, popping up and disappearing every few visits. I appear to be lucky on this trip, which the discovery of what is indisputably the largest of the lineage. Its valve serves to be a multipurpose hole; food goes in, and waste material comes out. Of course, they also use this valve for locomotion.

Louie's notes

Slice its tongue things into pieces like salami. Preserve these slices in brine or vinegar, they are a raw sushi grade ingredient.

Ship's comments

In a way, with its clamshell design and valuable gemstone within, it reminds me of an engagement ring case. However, instead of a slick velvet finish, it's craggy and covered in algae. This planet is skilled in turning things inherently beautiful into grotesque facsimiles of themselves!
