The Heavily-Armored Groinkinator, commonly shortened to H.A.G., is a species of shot-fish appearing in Pikmin Evolution as a boss. It is a large quadrupedal groink will silver skin, and a black cast iron plate to protect its face. Its four legs move in a rhythmic, rolling fashion resembling that of tank treads, giving it more mechanical movement than the more organic Gatling Groink. Rather than having armor protecting only its face, the H.A.G.'s armor covers its entire body, shielding it from all Pikmin attacks.

In addition to its impenetrable armor, the H.A.G. possesses the tools necessary to massacre armies of Pikmin. Its backside houses a compartment from which it can fire a volley of explosive rockets, which are larger and more powerful than the explosive pellets of the Gatling Groink; these rockets are so powerful they are able to kill even Elixer Pikmin, which are usually immune to explosions, making the attack one of the deadliest. The H.A.G. compliments its rocket barrage by splattering oil around the battlefield from a special tank underneath its body, creating slick puddles that cause leaders and Pikmin to slip and fall while the H.A.G. tries to land more rockets on them. Furthermore, the H.A.G. is well-equipped to engage stealthy opponents, as it can spit out proximity mines that detonate when leaders get too close to it and only Elixer Pikmin can disarm. The mines have a surprising range, about as far as a Pikmin can toss a Pikmin. On top of all that, the H.A.G. can produce bubbles from the vents on its head to trap Pikmin in and leave them helpless against its rockets.

While the H.A.G. may seem to be an invincible killing machine, it does have one weakness: itself. The oil the H.A.G. produces is not only slippery, but also flammable, and anything that explodes in its general area, be it rockets or mines, will violently ignite the oil, creating a fire that lasts until the oil inevitably burns away. If the H.A.G. happens to be on top of the oil when it ignites, the tank on the underside of its body will explode, temporarily blowing the armor off the beast and revealing its soft flesh. All Pikmin types can attack it while it is vulnerable, but Elixer Pikmin are most recommended as the fire will energize them and make them highly effective against the groink. The usefulness of Elixer Pikmin against the H.A.G. is fully realized upon its defeat, as the refuse it drops is notably covered in hot coals, rendering them the only Pikmin that can carry it to the ship. Overall, for all the danger it poses, the Heavily-Armored Groinkinator is a pushover and can be easily taken down with some simple strategy and dodging.

Notes

Ivy’s journal

The H.A.G. is a volatile species of groink in the animal kingdom. This animal seems to feed off of any creature it wants with its highly advanced, non-organic weaponry. Along with its ferocious personality, it quite literally is covered from snout to foot in pure metallic armor. Nobody has ever seen a H.A.G. grow said armor, which has led me to believe this animal may have picked up or made said coating through other means... Perhaps the Groink built it itself?

Leni's recipe book

If you ever find a way to break through this animal's tough exterior, its meat is very flavorful. Best cut into thin slices and served with mashed pellet posies.

Marvin's strategy guide

This beast seems to have everything: rockets, oil, explosions... even an invincible plating of protection! But nobody is perfect, which is why egging on this Groink to shoot its own puddles of oil seems to work. After that, it's beatdown time!
