A hydrothermal vent is a naturally occurring, cone-shaped stone formation located in water. It belches searing hot black smoke from deep below the planet's crust either periodically or constantly, and the smoke completely vaporizes most Pikmin caught in it. Due to its submerged position, typically only Blue Pikmin can be used to destroy it.

Hydrothermal vents are obstacles in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers. They only appear in Angler Underworld and during the Long Water Dumple's rematch in Gladiator's Gulch. They are cones of sulfurous rock covered in a brownish-yellow growth. They function similarly to fire geysers, periodically blowing black smoke that condenses into a thick cloud around the vent. Blue Pikmin can be used to destroy the vent, making it collapse on itself. However, if they're caught in the hot smoke, they'll be completely incinerated. Red Pikmin are also immune to the smoke, but this can not be seen normally.
