The Moss Mamuta is a relative of the Mamuta appearing in Pikmin 251. The Moss Mamuta's main form of attack consists of burying Pikmin into the ground. Unlike the Mamuta, which flowers Pikmin it buries, the Moss Mamuta reverts their maturities to the leaf stage instead. Moss Mamutas normally sit completely still when idle, only moving when leaders or their Pikmin come close enough to it. When this happens, a Moss Mamuta will turn to face them, run their way, and begin burying Pikmin and smashing leaders into the ground.

Moss Mamutas have the size and the asymmetrical body shape of a Mamuta. They have dull, cracked, gray skin, and in those cracks grows moss, giving the creature its name. Around each of its wrists is a brown band that displays markings similar to those found on Onions.

In battle, Moss Mamutas are no more challenging than normal Mamutas. They can be quite annoying, however, as they revert the maturity of every Pikmin they bury to the leaf stage. This in itself can be aggravating as those Pikmin may need to be plucked, either manually or through the Pluckaphone, to be able to efficiently fight it, something the Moss Mamuta that buried them will try to prevent from happening. The optimal course of action when fighting a Moss Mamuta is to throw Pikmin onto it, as swarming it will allow it to bury many Pikmin at once.

Moss Mamutas don't want to raise flowers like the ones we used to know, but rather try to remove the petals! What was once a friend of the Pikmin in now yet another foe. The Pikmin really do have a rough time living on this planet.”
