Jackwigs are a member of the mandiblard family appearing in Pikmin 4: The World to Free. They are well known for their bad temperaments, wasplike markings, and poison stingers. Their bright coloration warns predators to stay away. Jackwigs swarm and continually sting any creature larger than themselves to ward them away from their hive, and eat any smaller than them, such as Pikmin. They often build nests underground to create colonies but are known also to build nests on bramble gates, rebuilding or repairing them when necessary. Jackwigs do not eat stick bridges.

- “This odd type of shearwig doesn't destroy bridges but does something worse: building nests on gates and rebuilding destroyed gates! These guys seem to mimic a lot of the coloration of the deadly jacket wasp on our planet. For that reason, I shall call it a jacketwig, or jackwig for short, get it? Well, anyways, these mandiblards can sting my Pikmin with their hideous stingers. I begin to wonder why no creatures tend to roam by their nests. Could they be scared of them? They don't seem to look scary.”

- “Good thing this armor I have is pretty sturdy. Without it, I would be in a huge mess right now. I am quite allergic to wasps. Maybe these aren't wasps, however, I am not risking it for the sake of avoiding the emergency room. They, on a positive note, are quite cute. I have tried to hide so I can see them in their more exciting attitudes. I was very shocked, They tend to be quite protective because they still seem to watch the nest. However, I learned that they are very aggressive... the hard way. I found a bulborb walking by and they killed it, in a very cruel way and I will just keep it like that... no more.”

- “These pests sure do put up a fight when you disturb their nests. Aiming with caution is recommended. When they start to fly, bash them with a Pikmin. However, they are bigger and stronger than shearwigs, so it going to take more than one Pikmin to do the trick.”
