Plot

It was a slow night at Hocotate Freight. The President, anxious for something to pass the time with, had been sitting at his desk for the past hours. He then made the sudden realization of himself having stored a telescope in his office for just an occasion. The President quickly jumped out of his seat and scrambled over to a wooden chest in his room to fish out his telescope. Opening the chest, The President rummaged through his dusty belongings until he finally came upon the device. He retrieved the telescope from the old chest and set it up in a jiffy. Then he remembered having joined Captain Olimar on the quest to find Louie, and recalled the extraordinary lifeforms present on the Distant Planet. The President was extremely tempted to take a peek at PNF-404 now. He lifted up the telescope to his eye, and what he saw scared him half to death. What had been the Planet of the Pikmin was something else; and nowhere near healthy. The surface of the planet was pale, the oceans dark and thick with pollution, a thick fog covering the atmosphere. What once was the Pikmin Planet was no more. The President quickly jumped into his space suit and darted out of the building in a desperate attempt to save the Distant Planet before it was too late. He boarded The Ship in a flash, and set course towards the decaying planet.

Modes

Story Mode: Venture forth to banish the dreaded plague that is destroying the Pikmin Planet.

Nightmare Mode: Plays through exactly like Story Mode. However, enemies have stronger attacks and increased health. Pikmin are more likely to become infected as well, with a one in five chance of infection instead of a one in seven chance of infection.

Areas

Abandoned Laboratory

An area of immense scientific research that has fallen into disrepair due to the infection. The Abandoned Laboratory is unique in the fact it can be accessed from two separate locations: The Fungal Forest Navel and Rotting Oak. Infected Scientists and Infected Pikmin are always found in this location, along with other small enemies on occasion.

The Fungal Forest Navel

The Fungal Forest Navel, previously known as The Forest Navel from Pikmin 1, has fallen into disrepair. Mushrooms, such as the Spotcap and Common Glowcap, have grown rampant throughout caves due to the infection. Infected Scientist and Infected Pikmin encounters are more likely to occur in The Fungal Forest Navel. Mushroom Pikmin are only naturally encountered here as well.

Noxious Tundra

Previously known as the Distant Tundra from Pikmin 3, the Noxious Tundra has also fallen to the infection. What used to be its freezing and clear waters are now polluted. Not only do the waters of the Noxious Tundra seem even colder, but the water is now murky and hazardous. The land is not entirely desolate, however: victims of the infection wander the frozen wasteland, looking for their next victim.

Polluted Twilight River

Originally known as the Twilight River from Pikmin 3, the Polluted Twilight River has also fallen into disrepair due to the infection. The clear river that once carried bright green Lily Pads and their banks that thrived with life are no more. The river is murky and dead; the Lily Pads rotten and deteriorating; the banks of the river almost the same as the river. However, the banks of the river do contain life: just not not exactly living.

Rotting Oak

Formerly known as Formidable Oak from Pikmin 3, Rotting Oak has begun to deteriorate because of the infamous infection. The infection has yet again caused mushrooms such as the Spotcap and even the Kingcap to begin to destroy this massive structure.

Toxic Wilds

Previously known as the Tropical Wilds from Pikmin 3, Toxic Wilds has also fallen to the infection. What used to be its fresh and clear waters are now polluted and murky. The sunny atmosphere that accompanies this location is also absent; a heavy fog lingers overhead at all times.

Wilting Garden of Infection

Once known as the Garden of Hope from Pikmin 3, the Wilting Garden of Infection are breeding grounds for the infamous disease. Rotting corpses wander within the once incredible foliage. The Wilting Garden of Infection is the first place The President will land, and discover a group of Red Pikmin that are immune to the infection and terrified.
