Story

After Pikmin 2, Captain Olimar went back home to do whatever it is he does when he's not doing things in a Pikmin game. Then, he gets a call from his employer, the President of Hocotate Freight, who informs him that a previously unexplored region of the Pikmin planet has been discovered, and it's laden with treasure! Olimar and Louie then proceed to explore the Pikmin planet again and collect the treasure with the help of the Pikmin. Also, the Darkfreeze are there, too, but they don't realize that until near the end.

Once 10,000 pokos are obtained, the Ship discovers a new area. However, on the way, a strange creature scatters away the Onions and kidnaps Louie, leaving Olimar to fend for himself without his Pikmin, which he soon finds are stranded behind a pool of acid. Fortunately, after a bit of exploration, Olimar comes across a green Onion and discovers the acid-proof Green Pikmin, who show off their skills by reuniting Olimar and his Pikmin. However, Louie is still nowhere to be found, so Olimar and his Pikmin decide to search inside of a large system of tunnels made of vines, dangling in the air. At the very top, Louie is found, alongside the very creature that took him. After the long battle, the monster flies away, leaving behind Louie. A hole opens up in the ground that drops the group back to the landing site, and Olimar names the area "The Vengeful Thicket" due to his ordeal.
