The Black Wollywog is a strange, shadowy creature in Pikmin: Redemption that mimics the form of an average amphituber. They have pitch-black bodies and glowing yellow eyes. They are most often found in dark places such as caves, where they are most dangerous as they can most effectively execute sneak attacks. Idle Black Wollywogs are found flattened against the ground, initially appearing as out-of-place holes in the ground. When leaders or their Pikmin approach, however, a Black Wollywog will leap from the ground, exiting its disguised state, and linger in the air for a moment before falling down and crushing anything below it. It will assume its disguised state once more after hitting the ground, waiting for the next opportunity to attack. They are spawned in sizeable amounts by Pink Wollywogs.
Attacking and defeating a Black Wollywog can be exceptionally difficult because expert timing is required to take one down. They can not be harmed while flattened against the ground, meaning they are only vulnerable while they are airborne. The movement and position of a Black Wollywog can be monitored using its glowing yellow eyes, a technique that can make fights against the creatures easier.
