The Deceptive Long Legs is an arachnorb in Pikmin: Dusk and Dawn that lies on the final sublevel of the Dweevil's Nest and sublevel fifteen of the Crown of Bugs. No matter the location, it is always found in a round arena covered by beige grass, a treasure resting on it, its horns protruding from the ground but barely visible in the darkness of caves. Once a Pikmin tries digging up the treasure, it will spring up, throwing them and leaders off of itself, and begin to stomp around. In the Dweevil's Nest, the treasure on its head is the Challenger's Device, a treasure that unlocks Challenge Mode. In the Crown of Bugs, the treasure on its head is the Scented Lumber, a green, tree-shaped car air freshener.
The Deceptive Long Legs is a much larger boss variant of the Deceptive Dweevil. Its head is covered in dirt and vegetation, its giant horns holding a large chunk of soil, grass, and vines securely in place. Two of its four rock-covered legs are used for crushing and the other two for stabbing. It has a smooth, rounded head with four glowing eyes and a distinct lack of mandibles.
Due to the rocks on its legs, it is impossible for Pikmin to climb up to its head, so the proper strategy would be to wait until it lowers its head toward the ground and then throw Pikmin at it. Yellow Pikmin, as usual, make the fight significantly easier, as they are able to latch onto its head at all times. After a while of being attacked, it will tense itself before jumping into the air and falling to the ground, crushing any Pikmin or leaders under it. In Hard Mode, when it lands, boulders will begin falling, crushing any Pikmin under them.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “Deceptive Long Legs / Gigarachnia terrarale / Arachnorb family. Unlike its brethren, my Pikmin cannot climb up its legs to access its head, I must wait until it drops low to the ground before I begin my attack.”
Louie's notes
- “Pry the rocks off of its body, then wash the dirt off thoroughly. Once clean, boil for 2 hours until a rich blue color. Crack the shell open, and serve with your choice of dip for a snack you won't forget. As a bonus, the horns can be used as forks.”
Chacho's notes
- “Maybe the dirt contains gold? Perhaps the rocks contain rare fossils? I'm stretching myself here.”
S.S. Twilight's notes
- “The Deceptive Dweevil, despite its naming, is an arachnorb. Utilizing its extremely dense muscle capacity, it attaches numerous chunks of stone, rock, and other debris to its legs to easily crush smaller creatures. The creature also holds a small mound of land on its head as a disguise. During the first few months it's awake, it will scavenge for food, or hunt for it if such food wanders into its den. After consuming massive quantities of matter, it will hibernate in the ground for several months, feeding on the nutrients and minerals in the ground to sustain its bodily functions.
- Scientific classification: Gigarachnia terrarale
- Family: Arachnorb
- Lifespan: 70-100 years
- Habitat: Deep, underground areas
- Diet: Nutrients and minerals from the dirt; along with corpses scavenged before hibernation”
