The Dirtwyrm is a species of dirtwyrm appearing in Pikmin Evolution. Its name stems from it being an earthworm-like creature that resides in soil but is in fact a reptile, having an almost unnoticeable layer of brownish-pink scales covering its body. Besides that, it is the size of an Adult Centipare and has a pair of yellow eyes on its head and small gray pores on either side of its body. The Dirtwyrm resides underground, away from most creatures, but its presence is often indicated because of softer and darker soil where it resides. When Pikmin come near, the Dirtwyrm will rise from its territory and try to attack anything too close. It does this mainly by lunging forward with its mouth open in an attempt to chomp down on and eat Pikmin, and due to its length, its lunge has some range.

The Dirtwyrm, while not particularly tough, isn't frail either, having a respectable amount of health. However, it's quite difficult to take down due to two factors. Firstly, it passively regenerates health at a moderate pace when left alone. Secondly, while being swarmed, it will release small balls of mucus from the pores on the sides of its body, splattering a slippery fluid onto the ground that not only impedes movement but also makes the Dirtwyrm itself harder to damage as the mucus makes it able to shake Pikmin off easier. However, the mucus poses more danger than just that, as it makes the Dirtwyrm's lunge more deadly by making the creature more aerodynamic, increasing its speed and range, and making its body more moist and hydrophobic, providing temporary immunity to being soaked, ignited, and frozen by syrups.

Aside from simply waiting for the mucus to dry and risking it recovering all of its lost health, the best way to dispose of a Dirtwyrm is to melt the mucus with a corrosive substance. Specifically, the acidic green syrup, as it dries up the mucus on the Dirtwyrm's body and any on the ground nearby. The acid also deals heavy damage to the Dirtwyrm and overall puts it at an extreme disadvantage. This effect can also occur when it eats a Germ Pikmin, so bringing a squad of them to feed it with can be ideal. Overall, a simple but dangerous enemy, especially if plucked from the ground by an Elongated Mockiwi
