The Draconic Dandelfly is a species of hypertrophic Nectarous Dandelfly appearing in Pikmin Evolution. It is essentially a remarkably larger and more reptilian version of its smaller counterpart, with a more draconic head and abdomen segments covered in thick scales. As a direct result of hormonal changes induced by its hypertrophy, the Draconic Dandelfly has altered behavioral patterns. For one, its large size means it mainly sleeps on the floor of its den rather than constantly fly about; as well, its new energy intake requirements require it to have a liking for and diet of fresh blood. When it smells the taste of small prey, it will awaken from its slumber and use its sharp proboscis to snag and slurp up the innards of any it can, ranging from Shearwigs to Scornets, including Pikmin. The Draconic Dandelfly's long proboscis easily allows it to skewer up to 10 Pikmin on it to eat, making for a potentially devastating attack if it connects.

As the Dandelfly's head is too scaly to attack, focus should instead be put on its segmented abdomen and the fluid sac within each segment. Depending on where it is found, the Dandelfly can have as few as five segments and as many as ten. With each burst sac, the creature moves increasingly more quickly, making hitting the remaining segments more difficult. Utmost care must be put into avoiding being under the creature at any time, as each of its body segments can release a magenta powder that can confuse Pikmin on contact, prompting them into dancing helplessly around its flight path. The Draconic Dandelfly has a few weaknesses, two being a weakness to cold, and a delicate stomach. Tossing a cyan syrup onto one of its segments will instantly freeze it, causing the entire creature to fall to the ground and flail about in agony, leaving every segment open to attack until it thaws and the creature returns to the air. Feeding the Dandelfly a poisonous substance such as a purple syrup will cause it great internal pain, making its movement sluggish and awkward, and damaging it over time until its effects wear off, as indicated by the beast belching a cloud of black smoke. Perhaps the Draconic Dandelfly's biggest weakness is itself, as to deal the most damage to it, coax it into stabbing its proboscis into one of its body segments, dealing massive damage to it overall.

After rupturing all of its segments, the entire abdomen will explode, leaving only the head of the Draconic Dandelfly to carry alongside the piece of refuse it drops. Overall, for being an enormous variant of such a harmless enemy, the Draconic Dandelfly is quite a challenging opponent.

Notes

Ivy's journal

There is a small chance that during development as a carnivorous larva, the Nectarous Dandelfly will gain a mutation preventing it from transitioning to an herbivorous diet. This is a disease I like to call "Dandelfly Conversion Syndrome", or DCS. Most larvae that gain DCS will die due to not being adapted to having a carnivorous diet, but fables tell of a lucky few that used their proboscis to gain a taste for blood and become feared predators. Sadly, there haven't been enough live specimens to confirm if those myths are true.

Leni's recipe book

I assume it has a sweet but meaty flavor due to its mixed diet of blood and nectar, but I lack the samples to try it myself.

Marvin's strategy guide

Ivy said that due to not being able to adapt, most Dandelflies die of starvation, but personally I think their stomachs couldn't handle the blood. I wonder what else their stomachs can't handle?
