The Midnight Cannon Beetle is the adult form of the Midnight Cannon Beetle Larva, both being lithopods that appear in Pikmin: Spark. Their name references their deep purple shell, which glows under the light of the moon and also protects the creatures' bodies from direct attacks. As they develop, Midnight Cannon Beetles more properly bind the balls of toxic sludge they use to defend themselves to form hardened boulders that retain their poisonous attributes. Their boulders leave a trail of toxic sludge in their wake, slowing captains and poisoning any creatures that touch it. Although White Pikmin can destroy the sludge trail, they can also be crushed by the boulders that form them, making Midnight Cannon Beetles deceptively dangerous. As with all adult cannon beetles, clogging its blowhole by throwing a Pikmin into it as the creature inhales forces the creature to expose its vulnerable backside.

Notes

Abel's medical journal

By taking out the poisonous refuse, this creature leaves behind... nothing. Completely unusable.

Lyn's sale review

While the metal is gorgeous, it is also completely toxic to breathe in. Unsellable.
