The Rottenweiler is a species of beasthound appearing in Pikmin Evolution. It is a two-legged, olive green canine-like creature with dull purple fangs, as well as having the facial structure of a rottweiler dog. It is notable from other members of its species due to its short, nubby tail as opposed to a long one, too small to be of any use for the hound, essentially being a vestigial part of its body. The Rottenweiler dwells in the harshest wastelands of the world where only the hardiest of creatures can survive, as it has adapted to drink from the many acid pools dotting its habitat. This leaves it completely immune to harm from acidic substances, allowing it to safely tread in acidic lakes and eat creatures such as the Germ Pikmin without issue, which has a few consequences. The minerals that form acid are caked on the hound's pelt, causing mushrooms to grow on its fertile back. Unlike other similar enemies, however, the Rottenweiler isn't controlled by the mushrooms on the back, rather, the Rottenweiler is the one in control. It can scatter the spores of the mushrooms on its back, which land on the ground and grow in Glueshrooms, which in turn spread sticky mold along the ground. Furthermore, the acid in the beast's stomach causes it to have gas problems, meaning it regularly emits toxic gas from both of its ends. It can do so in two ways: one is belching a cloud in the shape of a cone, and the other is flatulating a large, lingering cloud that persists for quite some time before dissipating. This gas is so putrid that plants wither from the fumes and it is capable of instantly killing any small creatures such as Shearwigs due to not being able to withstand the sulfurous gasses. Any Pikmin that enters it, however, will simply run around and scatter as the poison overtakes them, like normal.

The main weakness of this beasthound is its backside, as the lack of a large tail negates any fear of it attacking Pikmin being swiped off by it. The mushrooms it produces should be avoided as if they are destroyed, they release a panic-inducing gas that will scatter anything in its range. Not to mention, the Rottenweiler has a powerful bite and piercing howl. The best course of action is to remove the mushrooms from the Rottenweiler's back, as they cover the softer, more vulnerable sides of the creature. Like all fungi, or plants for that matter, it is weak to being burned, so a red syrup will incinerate and remove all the mushrooms from one side of the Rottenweiler. Using two red syrups will leave the Rottenweiler completely bare, leaving it much weaker defensivly as the sides take twice the damage than the back. Since there is a large amount of poison involved, Roach Pikmin are essential when fighting this creature as the only danger posed is being eaten. Still, the Roach Pikmins' weakness to the acid present in the environment means leaders must still pay attention to their forces while facing off this mangey mutt.
