The Sand Comber is the eponymous member of the sand comber family appearing in Pikmin Rebirth. They are large, pale yellow mollusks with brown, spiraling shells resembling hardened clay. The Sand Comber, as the name suggests, makes its home in sandy areas, mainly places like canyons, deserts, and other environments with loose soil. The Sand Comber is very passive and is incapable of directly harming most creatures; rather, it wanders slowly about its territory using its brush-like teeth to sift through the soil immediately in front of it like a vacuum, complete with the appropriate sound. They inhale and ingest some smaller creatures such as sheargrubs and Mitites, allowing them to regain health, but they hate ingesting fluids such as water and acid as they can cause them to cough. They can also suck up Pikmin, though they won't be eaten, rather, they will simply be buried in the ground from the other side of this mollusk. While sifting, it will leave a trail of newly mixed soil that impedes movement, making traversal more difficult in areas where these are common. As a result, while not directly deadly, the fact they make traversal more difficult means they should be cleared out regardless.

Notes

Magdalene's journal

You know, I kinda like these guys. They are docile and they like to tickle. I hope I could take one secretly and raise it as my own. I never had a pet myself growing up, so this could be a new experience. Maybe I should get a pet when I return, I'll put a pin on that.

Azure's salvage logs

These creatures are hydrophobic, meaning that my idea of making them makeshift dishwashers would be a bad idea.

Lenin's cooking tips

  • Calories per serving: 350
  • Serving size: 6 slices
  • Preparation time: 1 hour

Nothing complicated is needed to serve these creatures, just fry them in butter, and slice the meat thin as that would make it easier to remove the granules they regularly ingest. I also suggest feeding them pepper and other spices to let them absorb the flavor to create a deeper experience.

Ivy's biology logs

The brush-like appendages and large shell are the two main identifiers of the Sand Comber and its family. These creatures haven't changed much over the years, with fossil records indicating that they have been around for almost millions of years. As a result, it's quite simple biologically speaking, having a primitive digestion system that only takes in small creatures such as insects, while a special bladder allows it to filter out sand and other particles. While simple, this hunting method is also quite successful, which is why they are able to thrive even after all these years.

Think of these as large vehicles leaving a trail of spikes to impede your movement. Then, think that you're causing the vehicle to slip by using the lubricant of your choice. Now, think of how I'm trying to continue this entry for far too long. Now, think that...
