The Gluppy is a species from a family of the same name appearing in Pikmin Evolution. They are small fish with pronounced cheeks and a rounded chin. Their most notable physical trait is that while they are usually small and pale, a few are slightly larger and come in multiple different colors. Gluppies are aquatic in nature, dwelling exclusively in water, acting mainly to give further life to the area. Gluppies are completely harmless and weak; they don't attack and lack any potent defenses, being nothing more than herbivores that consume patches of algae and moss. Gluppies don't like conflict; in fact, they will swim away if any Kelp Pikmin come near, and also flee from other predators such as Water Dumples or Hermit Crawmads, which will try to consume any that come near. Gluppies have very little health, on par with a Wogpole, and will try to shake off anything trying to attack it. Due to a complete lack of defenses, they are very easy to take down, but colored Gluppies are a little trickier, as only attacking their heads is effective. The gullets of colored Gluppies contain fluids that are spat out as a congealed substance when the creature's head is attacked. These substances resemble the appearance and properties of syrups or nectar, allowing captains to collect them easily. The color of the Gluppy matches the color of the substances it holds, making it possible to hunt for specific colors of Gluppy. Some Gluppies have been found in hidden lakes as a way to provide captains with new syrups and nectar in the middle of a daunting complex via a rest floor. Overall, while primarily a decorative enemy, Gluppies are also greatly helpful if syrups or nectar are needed.

Notes

Ivy's journal

Gluppies are among the most prolific species of aquatic life on the planet, with a large thriving population in both freshwater and saltwater habitats. The reason for their sheer prolific populations is due to both their high birth rates compared to other fish and their ability to store excess nutrients in their larynx and gizzard, creating a congealed substance they can digest later. This substance is highly preserved, and some scientists have been trying to replicate this behavior for the purpose of food preservation.

Marvin's strategy guide

When in panic, these creatures often consume what's in their mouths, so it's best to attack the heads first to get out anything that is valuable.
