The Male Mahowkiniser is an enemy in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers. These wasp-like insects have the typical insect build of a head, thorax, and abdomen. However, they only have a singular pair of legs, and as such, are usually flying in the air. They are prominently brown-colored, with a pair of red eyes that can move independently of each other. They have two pairs of mandibles, one smaller than the other, and a long, sickle-like stinger at the end of their abdomen. Male Mahowkinisers are native to mahowkiniser nests, which change in location every day. One Male Mahowkiniser will be patrolling around the nest as a sentry, and when Pikmin or leaders pass by, it will let out an excited screech. This is a signal that alerts the rest of the mahowkiniser colony that prey is near. Afterward, numerous other Male Mahowkinisers, alongside Female Mahowkinisers, will start to emerge from the nest and make a beeline to the Lumberlift, attracted to the floating base due to it being made out of wood.

Compared to their female counterparts, Male Mahowkinisers are slower, but more powerful. If attacked, they may briefly put their focus on Pikmin instead of the Lumberlift, swooping down and catching them in their mandibles to eat them. They can also use their stingers to both stab Pikmin and spray a toxic fluid from a short distance. Rock Pikmin and White Pikmin are ideal in fighting these particular creatures. It is also possible to weigh a Male Mahowkiniser down and make it fall to the ground. Each nest has five Male Mahowkinisers in it, and when they are defeated, no more will appear.

If a Male Mahowkiniser gets to the Lumberlift, it will begin chewing through the walls of the base, causing damage. If it manages to chew holes through it, then it is imperative that the Pikmin gather regenerating goo from a Rejuvenating Styxshroom to patch up the hole, or else either Olimar or Louie will fall out during takeoff at sunset and get briefly attacked by nocturnal creatures, losing a lot of health for the day afterward.

Notes

Olimar's notes

With a diet comprised primarily of wood, one would think this creature is passive, but in truth, members of the vexpa family have a reputation for being incredibly territorial, dangerous creatures. The males of the Mahowkiniser species do most of the work in the hive, gathering the materials to build its outer walls and defending the colony from would-be predators like Phosbats. It seems they have taken a liking to us, however, due to being bound to a floating base made out of wood. Feverish skirmishes in the name of attaining resources are commonplace in Mahowkiniser colonies, with all members, barring the queen, joining in.

Louie's notes

The abdomen is all fat, but the thorax and legs are near perfectly crab-like, as befits a massive arthropod. Put them on the grill and serve with butter sauce in order to get the party started!

Ship's comments

This creature's sole goal is to target us and us alone. Do you think they're being employed by somebody who really wants us off the grid?
