The Rainbow Waterwraith is a colorful member of the physiwraith family appearing in Pikmin: Rainbow World as the boss of the Waterwraith's Lair. It is a relative of the Waterwraith, and much like the Waterwraith, it can be encountered on every sublevel of the cave it inhabits but can only be fought on its final sublevel as it is invincible unless it is subject to a special weakness. The Rainbow Waterwraith appears on every sublevel once enough time has passed, except for the final sublevel, where it appears when its arena is entered. It travels about on its stone rollers, crushing anything in its path, be they leaders, Pikmin, or even enemies. It also moves faster than the Waterwraith, but not by much. Before rolling something over, the Rainbow Waterwraith may stop in front of it, roar and lift its front roller, and slam it down, killing anything underneath it and creating a shockwave that throws back anything standing by the Rainbow Waterwraith.
Five Violet Candypop Buds are present on the final sublevel of the Waterwraith's Lair and must be used as only Purple Pikmin can cause the Rainbow Waterwraith to become vulnerable. It is not recommended to use ultra-showy spray here. Use the nearby nectar to flower the Purple Pikmin before heading into the Rainbow Waterwraith's arena. Upon entering the Rainbow Waterwraith's arena, it falls from above and lands on the ground as it normally does, by roaring and lifting its front roller, then slamming it onto the ground and looking around before it starts rolling about the sublevel. Much like with the Waterwraith, Purple Pikmin must be thrown in such a way that they pound on the Rainbow Waterwraith itself or the ground around it so that the creature turns a dark shade of purple and stops moving. In this state, the Rainbow Waterwraith can be damaged by any Pikmin type. The Rainbow Waterwraith eventually breaks out of this state and continues wreaking havoc, but it can be extended by continuing to have Purple Pikmin pound it or the ground around the creature. Continue the process until its health reaches zero. When this happens, the Rainbow Waterwraith's rollers are destroyed and the creature begins scurrying about the sublevel, fleeing its attackers. Pursue the Rainbow Waterwraith and repeat the process described above, using Purple Pikmin to cause the creature to become vulnerable. When the Rainbow Waterwraith is finally defeated, it falls onto its back, contorts and bloats, and finally bursts into rainbow-colored sludge. It leaves behind the Lightning Shoe, which increases the movement speed of leaders and can be toggled on or off from the pause menu.
