The Snow Comber is a species of sand comber appearing in Pikmin Rebirth. They are a close relative to the standard Sand Comber, have pale blue skin and a shell resembling polished stone, and inhabit frigid climates. Like their relatives, Snow Combers are mostly harmless and not directly threatening, although that is not to say they are not harmless. Like the Sand Comber, they sift through and ingest the soil immediately in front of it like a vacuum, complete with the appropriate sound, and inhale and ingest some smaller creatures such as sheargrubs and Mitites, allowing them to regain health. However, unlike the Sand Comber, which creates a trail of slowing sand from behind, the Snow Comber creates a trail of ice, which is very slippery and can cause both captains and Pikmin to slip and fall. Additionally, if the Snow Comber ingests any Pikmin, they will be frozen, and will soon shatter and die if not whistled repeatedly. Unsurprisingly, they are immune to the freezing effects of ice, and, unlike the Sand Comber, do not choke on water. To attack the creature more safely, it should be stunned by choking it with smoke, which is accomplished by either feeding it sources fire or poison or having it ingest a bomb rock. Otherwise, this creature is one of the more docile enemies if left alone.

Notes

Magdalene's journal

Unlike its more sandy relative, I don't want to keep this as a pet. Maybe that is why I never got one as a kid, either they are your best friends or they are the banes of your existence. There is no in-between... hopefully, there is a pet for me out there.

If one were to domesticate these mollusks, their stomachs can preserve many different samples; just don't be too close to the mouth or you might get be put in cold storage yourself.

Lenin's cooking tips

Inedible. The meat is perpetually frozen. Even if you thaw it out, it is too gamey to enjoy.

Ivy's biology logs

While the Sand Comber itself hasn't faced any major changes, a strain of specimens began to adapt to colder climates. This is where we find the Snow Comber. Unlike the Sand Comber, this mollusk has a waxier body to better insulate against colder climates. While it is unknown why they would change to polar areas, it is theorized that the mouth suction system of the Sand Comber was not allowing proper ingestion of hard soil. Possibly, the firmer mouths of the Snow Comber allow this species to occupy a previously vacant niche of filter feeders.

Indy's strategy guide

Some soldiers reuse tactics, but with a twist so as to not be predictable. The Snow Comber is one such example. Rather than use its abilities to impede the captains, it instead impedes the troops, a clever mix-up of older strategies. That is something I can respect in a trooper like the Snow Comber.
