Original Pikmin, also known as Light-Gray Pikmin, are a prehistoric Pikmin species in Pikmin 2... Again? that was thought to have been extinct. They were the first Pikmin type ever to exist, and are light-gray with a pink tinge, to distinguish them from White Pikmin and Rock Pikmin, and with no outstanding physical characteristics beyond their white petals. Their light coloration references the paleness of idle Pikmin in Pikmin 1. They are not found until after the Supreme Dweevil is defeated as they are found in a hidden area previously blocked by an amethyst gate in Welcome Forest. Some join the squad afterward and the Original Onion can be found using them. In the Final Challenge and in other game modes, Original Pikmin have their own candypop bud, the Prehistoric Candypop Bud. Aside from being able to destroy amethyst, Original Pikmin are immune to magic, an otherwise dangerous, unpredictable hazard.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Original Pikmin / Pikminidae antiquus / Pikmin family. Being the first Pikmin type to ever exist, it is the ancestor of all Pikmin, and from it, other species that we know today came into existence. I thought then they were extinct, but it seems they were alive after all, just isolated in a place I never saw before, which was shocking. Due to the fact they are the first ever Pikmin, they never evolved any distinct color or other features, though they have some resistance to an unknown power.

Louie's notes

I wonder how they evolved from a parasitic species, or basically another one that targets objects as homes...

Hocotate Ship's notes

Well, if these Pikmin were the first to exist, the ancestor of all Pikmin, and are still alive, does that mean they are like living fossils? Or, how I could say, a living prehistoric plant-animal creature still alive today.
