The Ivy Bulborb is a poisonous member of the grub-dog family and appears in Pikmin: The Escape. It is a very close relative of the Pink Ivy Bulborb. It has an appearance similar to most ordinary bulborbs, but it has green skin, beige eyes, and a yellow back covered in poison ivy. Because of its ivy, only White Pikmin can attack the creature's back, but any Pikmin type can attack its face. Like with all bulborbs, Pikmin can be thrown at the Ivy Bulborb's eyes to make it flinch and spit out any Pikmin it may have in its mouth. Once it reaches half-health, the ivy on the creature's back will fall off, making the entire creature susceptible to attacks from any Pikmin but poisoning Pikmin that touch the loose ivy. A similar behavior is exhibited by Hairy Bulborbs.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “This creature has an amazing attribute that I have never before seen in other grub-dogs: it has ivy on its back. It hunts for prey by releasing a scent that attracts its favorite food, which is asteroid bugs. It then keeps still until a victim lands in its mouth, where it snaps its jaws shut like a Hocotatian Flytrap. After its meal, it sleeps until night, and at night, it repeats its tactic. A guess is that the ivy on its back is for protection.”
Louie's notes
- “Inedible. Due to ivy, eating could cause fatal injury or death.”
Creature Reel
