The Mushstool is a species of sporovid appearing in Pikmin Evolution. It is a vividly blue-colored sporovid the shape and size of a Puffstool but with a waxy cap that is covered in thick mucus and more mucus can be ejected from its spiked tip. The Mushstool is notable because, at first, it shoots sticky mucus all around its territory while other enemies nearby take advantage of the opportunity to attack Pikmin and captains trapped in the goop. The enemies that assist the Mushstool on the way to its lair include the Moldy Dwarf Bulborb, Puffstalk, and Moldspitter. This mucus it produces can be cleaned by any Pikmin type, but Kelp Pikmin seem to be the best type to remove it due to their longer leaves. When up close, the Mushstool secretes mucus over its body, making it more resistant to damage. Removing the mucus on its body requires attacking the body just enough to trigger the Mushstool to flip its cap, scattering the mucus everywhere and immobilizing anything in it. In this state, the Mushstool will attempt to clumsily flee from its assailants, allowing leaders and Pikmin to easily assault it. However, after some time, the Mushstool will use its cap to absorb all the mucus on the field around it and then close its cap over its body, reapplying the mucus and eating any Pikmin either trapped in the mucus on the battlefield or attacking the main body, killing them.
The Mushstool is quite a resilient and hardy enemy, having a lot of vitality and being immune to both the taste of Germ Pikmin and the explosions of charged Elixer Pikmin. Despite these circumstances, the mucus covering its body is a major weakness as, since it's a fluid, it can be frozen solid by a icy cyan syrup, completely immobilizing the Mushstool and allowing all Pikmin types to attack it freely until it eventually thaws, whereupon it will try to flee and attempt its mucus-absorbing attack. However, it won't be able to since it lacks mucus, so it wastes time reapplying the mucus to its body, leaving it vulnerable for even longer. Upon reaching half-health, the Mushstool gains a new attack wherein it can flip over onto its cap and spin like a top, scattering more mucus and pushing any Pikmin caught in its spin away, possibly into nearby mucus or an abyss. Overall, the Mushstool may not be the most dangerous enemy but can still be quite an annoying foe if left to its own devices, though compared to other sporovids, it's quite easy to take down.
Notes
Ivy's journal
- “The rather beautiful deep blue hue and pointed tip of the cap are the key pieces of evidence to identify the Mushstool from its fellow mobile sporovids. As it mainly lives in wet areas where wind barely crosses, the Mushstool has developed a sponge-like flesh to make up its stem. This not only gives the Mushstool more vitality compared to other Sporovids, but it also provides the Mushstool the ability to store water to mix with its spores, forming a gel to secrete from its body. These secretions allow the Mushstool to spread its lineage by simply having the gel stick to anything that crosses it, which will then spread it to a suitable environment in which it can grow and flourish.”
Leni's recipe book
- “The stem is waxy and flavorless and the roots are tough and fibrous, but the cap has a smooth creamy flavor. It can be ground down into a powder from which you can create a unique blue brew which tastes great when mixed with cream.”
Marvin's strategy guide
- “When you have a monster covered in a thick liquid, what does physics class teach you? Is it A, burn it into a noxious gas, B, eat it, or C, freeze it into a solid?”

Attacks | Spits balls of adhesive, summons Piklones |
The Mushstool is a species of sporovid appearing in Pikmin: Spark. They have a deep blue body with a fleshy cap rounder than those of their brethren. They dwell in damp dens, where they can scatter their sludgy spores freely. When spotting intruders, they spit from their mouthlike orifice balls of sticky slime that slows anything stepping on it. However, the Mushstool's signature ability is to create Piklones, hostile Pikmin-like creatures that assist the creature in hunting. One Piklone is created for every five Pikmin present, and when alone, each time a Piklone is defeated. Piklones attack anything nearby and bring the remains to the Mushstool for it to consume to regain a large amount of health, making them a significant threat. Goo Pikmin are a good choice as the soft body of the Mushstool is weak to explosives and the adhesive can be ignored by their slimy bodies. Upon death they drop the Zesty Capsule, a container of paprika worth × 200.
In Ultra-Spicy Mode, Mushstools create two Piklones, rather than one, for every five Pikmin on the field. Additionally, they recall Pikclones that are suffering from a hazard.
