They resemble Male Sheargrubs and Female Sheargrubs but are entirely black and have glowing yellow eyes. Shadow Sheargrubs rapidly dissolve into nothingness upon defeat, suggesting that they, like the Waterwraith, might be a natural phenomenon interpreted as sentient organisms.
