Gummed Dumples are semiaquatic grub-dogs appearing in Pikmin 251. They are a close relative of the Water Dumple, having the same general body shape and behavioral characteristics. Like Water Dumples, Gummed Dumples wait idly on land and in water, until a leader or Pikmin draw near, prompting them to give chase. A Gummed Dumple will quickly lose interest if its potential meal walks too far away, however, and return to its original spot afterward.

The Gummed Dumple has purple, scaly skin covered in dark green splotches. Its lips are pink, and its tail is the same color as its splotches.

Even though they are slightly stronger than normal Water Dumples, a Gummed Dumple can easily be taken down by swarming it with a decent number of Pikmin. Taking down a group of them without losses can be a challenge, however, but swarming a large number of Pikmin into a small group of Gummed Dumples is still effective. Throw additional Pikmin onto the Gummed Dumples with the least amount of Pikmin attacking them to kill them faster and ensure there are no Pikmin casualties.

Notes

Olimar's observations

The Gummed Dumple has a thicker layer of insulating skin versus regular Water Dumples. It is likely that they evolved to be more resistant to the Pikmin. With proper swarming tactics, they still aren't tough to take down, even if they are in groups.

The Gummed Dumple is a species of grub-dog appearing in Pikmin Evolution. It has a build nearly identical to the Water Dumple's but is notable for having respective colorations for being inert, moving slowly, or moving quickly, appearing violet, mauve, or magenta. Gummed Dumples are less mobile, preferring to stay in one place rather than explore their aquatic habitat. The reason for this is to maintain the Gummed Dumple's unique defenses; when intert, it will negate 80% of damage from attacks, making it seem invulnerable when combined with the fact that it has 20% more health than a Water Dumple.

As it prefers to not move, only eat anything that tries to attack its hide, taking a Gummed Dumple down is very difficult. The only way to pierce its defenses is to take advantage of the creature's signature voraciousness as, if it misses its attack, it will begrudgingly be forced to give chase, causing its hide to lighten. When it becomes mauve, the Gummed Dumple negates 50% of the damage dealt to it, a significant decrease in defenses, but still highly resilient. For best results, force it to continuously exert energy by continuing the chase and make its hide turn a bright magenta, not only making it lose its damage resistance but also take 50% more damage than usual, making it frailer than a standard Water Dumple. If left alone, the skin of the Gummed Dumple will revert to its original color. There is no other strategy to weaken the Gummed Dumple, it is just a matter of stringing it along. The Gummed Dumple is often placed in larger herds of normal Water Dumples, making them more challenging as it won't be possible to clear them out with one strategy alone. That is the purpose of the Gummed Dumple–to provide a twist to an otherwise standard strategy.
