The Blowhog Rex is a species of large tusked blowhog appearing in Pikmin Evolution as a miniboss. It resembles an ordinary Tusked Blowhog but is much larger and covered in a thick layer of hair, which can be brown, silver, or white depending on where it is found. This hair doesn't just serve as decoration, but has functionality, like the Shaggy Long Legs'; it gives complete protection to the Blowhog Rex, stopping Pikmin from latching on. The Blowhog Rex is a more comedic creature like the Giant Breadbug, being a simple boss that is more based on character than being a challenge.

The Blowhog Rex typically starts the fight off through a silly situation it is in, usually being trapped in a block of amber or ice that it breaks out of face-first when a captain comes near. The Blowhog Rex has similar abilities to the Tusked Blowhog in that it tries to charge into Pikmin so it can eat them, but it has some distinctions from its fighting style. Firstly, the Blowhog Rex is able to curve its charge towards Pikmin that move out of the way, as compared to the straight charge of the standard Tusked Blowhog. It also has a more powerful charge, being able to nearly instantly kill any enemies that cross its path and launch their bodies over great distances. The Blowhog Rex also does this powerful charge to large rocks, launching them, which can crush any Pikmin they land on except Alloy Pikmin. The Blowhog Rex can also cause multiple boulders to fall upon hitting a wall, creating a dangerous diversion while it is staggered. Specifically, when the Blowhog Rex hits a wall it can't break, it will stagger back on its hind legs before it falls on its back, revealing a soft pink underbelly. In this, state it is vulnerable to all Pikmin types, though oddly enough, each Pikmin type deals equal damage to it except for Roach Pikmin, which deal double the damage to it. This may be due to the Roach Pikmin causing the Blowhog Rex to itch as if they are fleas. After some time, the Blowhog Rex will stand back up and repeatedly try to hammer its head into the ground, causing more boulders to fall, before resuming its normal behavior.

While easy to defeat when in its natural habitat, it's much deadlier as a raid boss, as its charge can instantly break down even the toughest settlement wall, making them almost useless when it shows up alongside a pack of Tusked Blowhogs, Musky Blowhogs, and Sour Blowhogs. They assist the Blowhog Rex by trying to push it back up when it's flipped over, reducing its period of vulnerability and making it more difficult to defeat in a raid than out in the open.

Notes

Ivy's journal

The oldest and largest species of blowhog, it seems to be a prime candidate for a living fossil since it seems to not have changed much over time. It shares the tusked blowhog's more terrestrial build while keeping the rubber-like hide of the gas-based blowhogs. It has now become a common theory that this is the species that acts as a missing link between both families.

Leni's recipe book

Too gamey for my taste, can't recommend eating it.

Marvin's strategy guide

Simple really, let it hit its head on a wall. This creature doesn't deserve a complex strategy.
