That's no hot air balloon! That's another one of those blowhog beasts! – The ship, upon discovering the Blowtorch Blowhog

The Blowtorch Blowhog is an enemy in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. They resemble most aerial blowhogs, having a large, balloon build. However, the body of the blowhog points snout-down, like a Frosthop Blowhog. The body of the blowhog is covered in a stripe pattern of the three primary colors; red, yellow, and blue. Two eyes are on the front of the blowhog with a light green sclera and dark pupil, along with a dark purple snout.

The Blowtorch Blowhog can be found slowly floating around the area. Once it eventually crosses over a group of Pikmin, it will inhale deeply and spew out a large gust of fire below. Any Pikmin not immune to fire will be set ablaze by the dangerous flames. This blast of fire will also propel the Blowhog upwards somewhat. The Blowtorch Blowhog will then proceed to float away from the area that it set ablaze. If followed, the blowhog will release a constant stream of flame, which causes it to speed up significantly, while leaving a trail of fire on the ground.

There are many ways to take down a Blowtorch Blowhog. Using Pikmin to weigh it down is the standard option; Weighted Pikmin and Purple Pikmin are best suited for this. Winged Pikmin can take on the beast in the air. Red Pikmin and Snapdragon Pikmin can pass through the deadly flames the Blowtorch Blowhog emits. Throwing a Dart Pikmin at the beast will cause it to slowly deflate, losing health over time. When the Blowtorch Blowhog perishes, it will burst into a giant flame that can light Pikmin ablaze.

In Overlord mode, the Blowtorch Blowhog will blow blue fire on its main attack, which can instantly kill non-Snapdragon Pikmin.

Olimar's notes

The Blowtorch Blowhog is a strange specimen indeed. It floats in the sky using a combination of phosphorus and hydrogen gas. It just so happens that the chemical combination is highly flammable when exposed to this planet's atmosphere, making it a good deterrent for attackers. If one were to pop this specimen, it would result in a violent and volatile explosion that would sear anything around it. I can tell from personal experience.

Louie's notes

The meat of this creature will be burnt instantly when the explosion happens upon death. But, the snout will be cooked to perfection. Use it in any recipe of your choice. I prefer to marinate it in the internal juices of other blowhogs with a vegetable stew.

President’s notes

So why haven't we used some form of paraglider or hot air balloon to fly over all these dangerous monsters? Think, Olimar, think!!

Overlord’s thoughts

I like its colors. I'll give the species that. Reminds me of a Frosthop Blowhog... but with fire.

Attacks Burns Pikmin

The Blowtorch Blowhog is an enemy in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers. It is unique amongst aerial blowhog varieties in that it is upright and striped in numerous bright reds, yellows, and blues, resembling the gasbag of a hot air balloon. It has green eyes and two black barbels on its drooping snout. The Blowtorch Blowhog will drift around until it's directly above the squad, leading to it releasing a searing blast of fire that propels it upwards. Although Red Pikmin have the elemental advantage, this attack pushes the creature out of the way of all Pikmin types but Yellow Pikmin and Winged Pikmin, making them more useful against it. The Blowtorch Blowhog can also release a large fireball that explodes into a flaming shockwave when it hits the ground. When defeated, it will swell to an uncomfortable size and explode, resembling a burnt, burst balloon. They can not be weighed down to the ground and don't drink from water like other aerial varieties.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Sometimes, the relation between terrestrial and aerial blowhogs is unclear to the standard explorer. However, this creature is very clearly similar to the fiery blowhog in terms of defensive capabilities. It achieves its sweltering defenses by releasing controlled spurts of hydrogen alongside phosphoric atoms that ignite when oxidated, often leading to more explosive attacks. Due to the warmer air in its body rising upwards, it has a unique, upright position shared with the frosthop and suckerpunch blowhogs.

Louie's notes

As it cooks itself upon death, you can just bite into whatever's left from the blast and enjoy a delightful taste akin to Christmas ham.

Ship's comments

The colors on its body make it look so garish! Is it a living circus act, or a kindergarten toy? Knowing its behavior, it's likely the former. Ugh!
