The Magma Dumple is a relative of the Water Dumple in Pikmin: Distant Planet that developed tougher skin to suit the normally intolerable conditions of extremely high temperatures. They are bright red in color as opposed to the blue hue of their water-based relatives. They usually idle around or within pools of boiling lava; despite being able to survive in it, this is only because of their outer layer of skin. After they take a single hit, surrounding lava will instantly burn through the beast, but the trouble is damaging the Magma Dumple in the first place. Magma is impossible for leaders to venture through until they discover some kind of fire protection, and even Red Pikmin can suffocate under layers of lava. A wiser course of action may be luring one just out of the lava so it can be punched, then running away to let it kill itself by returning into the magma.

The Lava Dumple is a species of grub-dog appearing in Pikmin: Evolution Unleashed. It is red in color and has green lips. It dwells within pools of searing lava and refuses to leave them unless it is hunting for food or overcome by sheer boredom. Because it has evolved to survive in lava rather than water, exposure to water is lethal to it. Red Pikmin are almost always necessary to defeat a Lava Dumple due to it being fought mainly in lava.

Lava Dumples are close relatives of Water Dumples and appear in Pikmin: Treacherous Treasures. However, instead of residing near water, this dumple lives in hot, volcanic environments, such as near lava flows and fire geysers. Despite being called the Lava Dumple, it never enters lava. It eats Pikmin quickly, and so attacking from the front is unwise. When shaking off its attackers, it puffs out its dorsal fin, sending Pikmin flying. However, thanks to its small health pool, it's easy to defeat using a large squad. Just swarm it from behind and it should be down in no time. Red Pikmin should be used to kill one if it is found near fire hazards, but bomb rocks are extremely effective against Lava Dumples. Since they're usually found in groups, even a single bomb rock will take many of them out at once.
