Unlocking the Mode: Extreme Weather Events Mode becomes available once the player discovers the Red Pikmin in the Molten Crater. With their newfound ability to traverse magma, players may find themselves perplexed by the fiery environment. However, just before the next day begins, Collin will send a message. "It appears that something unusual is happening in Molten Crater, the region is now experiencing rainfall."
Initiating an Extreme Weather Event: Players will land in Molten Crater to witness the effects of this unusual weather, and a quick tutorial will guide them through the mechanics of the Extreme Weather Events. During this phase, players have limited time to navigate the transformed landscape while avoiding the new obstacles and enemies that the weather brings. Their primary objective is to gather scattered puzzle pieces that hold the key to progressing further in the game.
Unlocking Upgrades: Once players have collected all four puzzle pieces in the first Extreme Weather Event, they will unlock a significant upgrade—the Scorch Guard. This valuable tool allows them to brave extreme heat, fire, and magma, enabling the exploration of previously inaccessible areas. A new upgrade will be unlocked after completion of each Extreme Weather Events level. Although some of these are required to progress in the story, like the aforementioned Scorch Guard, most of these upgrades serve as useful but unnecessary tools for the player to utilize.
Three Types of Extreme Weather Events: Extreme Weather Events Mode comprises three types of events in each area:
Rain and Wind Events: These two are recurring weather events that will challenge players with slippery terrain, gusty winds, and rapidly changing conditions. They will get more extreme with each new area that they appear in.
Special Weather Event: The third type is unique to each area, adding an extra layer of complexity to the gameplay. These special events are designed to test players' adaptability and strategic thinking.
Resource Consumption and Replayability: Participating in Extreme Weather Events consumes a day of your limited glow sap supply. However, upon successfully completing each event, players can replay them as many times as they desire without expending any additional resources. This allows them to perfect their strategies and uncover hidden secrets within these levels. However, all incomplete levels will appear at random moments throughout the story with around a 33% chance for one to occur every day, so it's recommended to complete them when they first appear, you might not know when you get another chance.
