Scientific name Pikminidae supravelum
Family Pikmin (assumed)

Glow Pikmin are a type of Pikmin that can only be used during night expeditions and in caves. They have bright lime-green, bioluminescent bodies that, due to their ability to float, end in a tapered, ghostly tail. They have blue eyes, though one is larger than the other and has a light blue pupil. Glow Pikmin have pointed yellow petals and appear to be the smallest of any Pikmin type. Notably, they automatically advance in maturity, and will not lose their flowers if they are shaken off.

Glow Pikmin are the only Pikmin that can be used during night expeditions and can be thrown and commanded like any other Pikmin. However, they have a unique charge mechanic: when a charge is prepared, they coalesce into a single glowing ball called a glowmob, which then charges forward when the charge is released. If the glowmob comes into contact with an enemy, it will burst into Glow Pikmin and stun all nearby enemies, the Glow Pikmin automatically attacking them.

Glow Pikmin are not plucked from the ground as normal; instead, they appear to be created by the Lumiknolls. Glow Pikmin also do not have a respective Onion or candypop bud; instead, producing more Glow Pikmin requires collecting glowing rocks called glow pellets. The Glow Pikmin will bring these to Lumiknolls, generating one Glow Pikmin for every five glow pellets gathered. Newly created Glow Pikmin immediately join the squad through teleportation, regardless of the distance from the Lumiknoll. Glow seeds can be used to summon Glow Pikmin in caves, which they are unable to leave.

The sheer amount of hazard resistances Glow Pikmin have renders them virtually immortal. Fire, electricity, water, poison, ice, and confusion have no effect on them, they become temporarily embedded into the ground if crushed, are knocked back harmlessly by ink, and any that are eaten or subject to blunt force return to the squad after a short delay. According to the Rescue Corps, Glow Pikmin transmute themselves into photons and reconstitute elsewhere upon what would otherwise be death.

Glow Pikmin, also known as Lime Pikmin, is a returning "Pikmin" type in Pikmin 2... Again?, slightly changed similar to the also returning Ice Pikmin. Glow Pikmin first appear in the first night expedition in the Welcome Forest, which takes place after defeating the Bull Flinghorn in the Fling Ring from the Treetop Valley, and they come from behind the Lumiknoll, suddenly scaring Louie. They are spectral lifeforms resembling Pikmin, around the size of Winged Pikmin, also having the shape of a smaller body and comparatively larger head, which is more triangular. They are colored yellow-lime to avoid confusion with the Green Pikmin and are bioluminescent. Additionally, their blue eyes are both the same size, but with yellow pupils rather than cyan, and their body ends in a ghost-like tail. Discovering the Glow Pikmin awards the ""What's this?!" - Hocotate Ship, 2004" achievement.

Glow Pikmin have average attributes and retain their immunities to most hazards that other Pikmin are resistant to except vegetation, knockback, blunt force, panic, and magic, those being fire, water, electricity, poison, ice, slime, wither, and sand. However, they can't be taken out of caves due to the light of the outside, and will watch the Pikmin and leaders leave before teleporting out of the cave. Overall, Glow Pikmin are similar to the Bulbmin's Pikmin 2 incarnation, but with some additions, the Glow Pikmin being what caused the Bulbmin to be reworked, alongside the Glow Pikmin being useful. Despite seemingly being optional, Glow Pikmin are required to progress through some alternate sublevels where there are lamps not connected to any button.

During night expeditions, Glow Pikmin have none of the resistances they had during the day. They can propagate more of themselves by delivering glow pellets to the Luminknoll or Tricknoll. While idle, they will teleport to the active leader when they whistle. When at least 20 Glow Pikmin are present in the squad, they can merge to form a glowmob, a ball of glow energy that travels in a straight line where directed by a leader, and when near an enemy, the Glow Pikmin making it up will disperse with a stunning light and swarm the enemy. The stun duration is less than it was in Pikmin 4, but the more Glow Pikmin are involved, the longer the stun duration. To temporarily return their immunities to them as well as more than before besides instant-kill hazards, ultra-neutral spray from a nectar egg will be necessary. However, as no Pikmin besides Glow Pikmin are usable during night expeditions, enemies that require a Pikmin's special uses, like Rock Pikmin to shatter crystal protecting an enemy, require special tactics to defeat. For them, an indefinite quantity of bomb rocks can be retrieved from dirt mounds scattered about.

If the Lumiknoll is destroyed, the night expedition will end in failure, and if all Glow Pikmin are "killed", the Luminknoll will produce 10 Glow Pikmin, but only once, as losing all Glow Pikmin again will also fail the night expedition. Once dawn breaks, any remaining Glow Pikmin will disintegrate, with every 20 disintegrating into 1 glow sparkle, which can be used in caves before entering them to essentially bring Glow Pikmin inside with all their usual benefits. Surviving a night expedition with the Lumiknoll at critical health will grant the "Hurtknoll" achievement.

Notes

Hocotate Ship's notes

Glow Pikmin are what I would call ghosts. Until we discovered a certain other species, we were going to call these Green Pikmin, although they have more of a lime coloration. They are virtually immortal, but can only be used at night or in very dark locations, typical for ghosts, and depending on where they are, they may not be able to use some of their signature abilities. They become glow sparkles when the Lumiknoll is defended, which can be used in caves to access them. Strangely, it seems that candypop buds refuse to convert them, similar to the Bulbmin, for some reason. Well, for the Bulbmin I can understand why, as a Bulborb turning into another Pikmin magically would be odd and that would make no sense.

Glow Pikmin appear in Pikmin: Together Forever, just as they have in Pikmin 4. They float and can lift objects into the air and are immune to all hazards, but are only usable at sunset, at night, or in caves. Glow Pikmin have a charge ability, the glowmob, which stuns enemies. The problem is that Glow Pikmin move slower than all other Pikmin.

Glow Pikmin will automatically navigate glow pellets and corpses to the Lumiknoll at night, though at sunset the Glow Pikmin will bring them to the Onion to propagate Glow Pikmin that can be stored for later. The glow sap they create is used to cure leaflings.

When night falls, the ghoulish Glow Pikmin come out to play. With their ghost-like appearance and mysterious qualities, it’s hard to call this a Pikmin at all. It’s not certain if Glow Pikmin are truly Pikmin or not, but they still carry out tasks, like carrying things and propagating their species. What a mysterious creature…

Glow Pikmin are Pikmin-like creatures in PNF-404 Pet Shop that look similar to ghosts. They are lime-green with a ghostly tail and two striking but differently-shaped blue eyes. They slowly mature over a short time, something that no other Pikmin does. Glow Pikmin can only be bought at night, when they are active.
