Ice Pikmin are a type of Pikmin known for their icy, cyan bodies, complete immunity to all types of freezing, and their ability to freeze enemies and water bodies solid. They burn to death faster than other types when lit aflame. They leave small snow and water vapor particles around them as they move, and their petals are yellow.

When attacking enemies, an Ice Pikmin will progressively chill them at a low rate with every hit or a high rate when eaten directly. Once sufficiently chilled, the enemy freezes entirely and can no longer act for a time. Defeating a frozen enemy will make it shatter into chunks of ice without leaving a corpse, instead producing a drop of nectar or ultra-spicy spray. After a few seconds, the enemy will begin shaking and eventually break out of the ice, knocking any attached Pikmin to the ground.

Ice Pikmin can be thrown into water to freeze it; however, they are only able to float in the water, not explore it, and are not resistant to water otherwise. When enough Ice Pikmin are thrown in, the entire body of water instantly freezes over alongside any enemies in the water at the time. With the water frozen, the Ice Pikmin that were thrown in get stuck with their upper bodies protruding from the ice's surface, and leaders and other Pikmin can safely walk on top. Whistling the Pikmin will cause them to pop out. After some seconds, the ice will begin cracking, and then thaw completely, returning to normal.

Ice Pikmin, also known as Cyan Pikmin or Aqua Pikmin, is a returning Pikmin type in Pikmin 2... Again?, changed alongside the also returning Glow Pikmin. They are discovered in the Glacial Tundra, from the subterranean Diamond Candypop Bud, which they are made from exclusively as they lack a respective Onion. A cyan parasitic species of Pikmin, specifically hermikmin, Ice Pikmin resemble other Pikmin but their bodies are covered in ice chunks that constantly emit cold vapor. As such, they are resistant to ice, unable to be frozen by cold wind. They have an average attack strength and above-average movement speed, but are quite slippery, sliding to a halt instead of stopping immediately when they stop walking or land from a throw.

Enemies that are being attacked by Ice Pikmin will have a separate gauge around their health wheel that, when filled, will dramatically slow the creature in a process known as "chilling". Chilled enemies have a cyan tinge and produce snow particles, and will return to normal some seconds after being chilled, but miniboss and bosses will warm up faster, and ice-based enemies are immune. Additionally, while Ice Pikmin are not resistant to water, they can float in bodies of it, freezing the water in their vicinity in a circle but also trapping them in the center. However, leaders can use the resulting ice to traverse the water the Ice Pikmin froze. Whistling the Ice Pikmin causes them to jump out of the ice, whereupon the ice begins to crack seconds before shattering, allowing Pikmin and leaders still on the ice to flee.

Notes

Olimar's notes

Ice Pikmin / Pikmin family / Pikminidae habiglacious. Similar to the Rock Pikmin, Ice Pikmin is another species of hermikmin, but they inhabit ice rather than rocks. I wonder how the ice just didn't melt already? Maybe I should look into how that's possible. Just like almost every Pikmin we found so far, they are obtained only from candypop buds, in this case, the rare subterranean Diamond Candypop Buds. Additionally, due to their icy bodies, they can "chill" the foe, making them slower for a while. Moreover, their frozen bodies allow them to freeze water around them, though this process also makes them unusable until called back, which this "ice bridge" will shatter shortly after.

In Pikmin: Adventure of Four, the Ice Pikmin are the third type of Pikmin discovered, and are found at Snowhead. They are immune to cold-based attacks, including cold water, although they cannot survive exposure to regular water. They are icy-blue Pikmin with no facial features besides eyes, and they have fur around their necks.

Ice Pikmin in Pikmin: Dual Worlds are resistant, as could be assumed, to ice, cold temperatures. They are able to walk over water by turning it into ice and happen to be weak to fire. More Ice Pikmin are required to freeze saltwater than freshwater. Ice Pikmin are found in Silverlake Summit, which can be unlocked not long after getting Red Pikmin.

Ice Pikmin appear in Pikmin: Global Breakdown and are found at the Valley of Repose. These Pikmin seem to be made entirely of solid ice. They can make bridges of ice with which to cross bodies of water merely by walking over it. They are also the only Pikmin to withstand blizzard attacks. They can break open ice blocks that have treasures or other objects within. When an Ice Pikmin is eaten by an enemy, that particular enemy will become frozen for a short time. Ice Pikmin can be propagated using Chilly Candypop Buds.

Ice Pikmin, in Pikmin: Spider Attack, are Pikmin that can withstand very low temperatures. Ice Pikmin sprouts can be found in the Winter Snowflake. Ice Pikmin are light blue and have cracks in their skin. Their pupils are longer than normal. Ice Pikmin slip everywhere except snow. This can have a negative effect as if there is a pit, Ice Pikmin can slip into it. Ice Pikmin are able to survive low temperatures, as, in the Winter Snowflake, if Olimar has collected the Temperature Mechanism, the temperature will reach dark blue, or negative twenty degrees, which is enough to kill normal Pikmin. Ice Pikmin are very fragile Pikmin, as projectiles can kill them instantly. They will visibly shatter upon being hit, and a Pikmin soul will rise from it. If Ice Pikmin are in hot areas, such as the Volcano Base, they will melt and die.

In Pikmin: Treasure Colonization, Ice Pikmin have the ability to form an ice casing around their body. When an Ice Pikmin is first sprouted, it is without an ice casing. However, Ice Pikmin can reform a new casing of ice if the one it had breaks. This will happen if said Pikmin is either in a cold environment, it is snowing, or if it is the next day. When a day ends, every unarmored Pikmin regains a brand new casing for the next day. When an Ice Pikmin has a casing of ice, it has a resistance to blunt force. They also can break glass and crystals, although this does do chip damage to the casing. Ice Pikmin can also survive in cold waters and are much better swimmers with a casing. The hazard of fire is extremely dangerous to Ice Pikmin, as it can completely melt their casings, and any Ice Pikmin that are directly exposed to fire will succumb to it in half the time it would take to kill any other Pikmin. Warm waters also melt the ice quicker. If eaten, it'll cause the enemy to have a brain freeze, which may last up to five seconds. If the eaten Ice Pikmin does have an ice encasing, the brain freeze will be longer, and the Pikmin will be spat out. They have a body length of thirty-six millimeters, a carrying capacity of five while under the effects of ultra-sour spray, and their icy casing has twenty-five health points.

Notes

Olimar's notes

I'm still wondering how these Pikmin can create a casing of ice around them. Their main purpose is for protection, of course, but how it is done is very unclear. I have a theory on this, as it may be possible that they have some type of small hairs that collect moisture, and due to the cold environment needed for the casing to appear, will cause the moisture to freeze.

Tang's notes

Like rock Pikmin, yet temporary. Still a great Pikmin type to use, and that ice immunity is very useful.

Robin's notes

How do they even make the incasing??? Better yet, why can they swim in such bulky ice casing??? Will we ever know these answers? Probably not... but still best to hope, right?
