The Sandborb is an enemy in Pikmin: Stranded Exploration appearing in the Barren Desert during the day and various caves below it during both the day and the night. Unlike similar breadbugs, this creature is a true grub-dog. It is diurnal and is therefore much faster than a normal bulborb during the day. It will roam like a bulbear, although in a much more limited route. However, if another Sandborb is nearby, they will help one another fend off threats, though they will not group together if their routes overlap. This deceptive beast can eat up three Pikmin at a time in rapid succession. At the start of the story, a Sandborb chasing Louie must be defeated.

Sandborbs have a sturdy spine that can not be crushed by Pikmin throws, not even Purple Pikmin, as it is fully mature. Pounding a Sandborb with Purple Pikmin on the center of the back is the best strategy to defeat them, as they have tough skin and Pikmin will only do half the normal damage when attacking normally. They will burrow underground during the night, and sleep through being dug up by White Pikmin. Once this is done, they may be carried back to an Onion by dexterous Yellow Pikmin or attacked by any other kind of Pikmin. Once their health drops to three-fourths, they will wake up, although they will be sluggish and as easy to defeat as a sleeping Red Bulborb, if not easier.

Notes

Olimar's notes

This unique species of grub-dog adapted to a desert environment. Despite being the same size as breadbug mimics and juvenile bulbears, this is a fully mature grub-dog. Like the spotty bulbear and its young, these creatures often work in groups, spacing out routes to cover large amounts of area. They often control local desert-like regions during the day and burrow safely underground during the night where they sleep.

Louie's notes

Boil in hot water to remove sand, throw in a fire pit and roast in hot coals, serve as the main course at a celebration or formal dinner.
