The Tsar Bulblax is a species of Grub-dog appearing as a secret boss in Pikmin Evolution. It is most comparable to the Emperor Bulblax in terms of appearance but is much larger, exactly triple the size of the Emperor's giant size to be specific. The Tsar Bulblax is also notable for its autumnal coloration, having an orange hide, brown head, yellow tongue, and yellow topaz crystals protruding from its hide. It is very rare, as it is not a raid boss, nor found in underground areas like its close relatives. Encountering the Tsar Bulblax requires transporting boss corpses to a landmass large enough to accompany its size and barren of any major obstacles or hazards, and then placing the corpses in a pile in the middle to act as bait. After two to three days have passed and the conditions are met, chances are that a Tsar Bulblax will be present, slowly gnawing on and eating the bodies.

As for the fight itself, the Tsar Bulblax shares many of the Emperor Bulblax's attacks, primarily licking and jumping, but utilizes them in different ways and has more attacks than just those two. Its lick attack leaves behind a puddle of corrosive sludge that must be cleaned by Germ Pikmin, and landing after its jump attack causes boulders fall from the sky, peppering the area and crushing any non-Alloy Pikmin. Another attack the Tsar Bulblax performs is opening its mouth and drooling on the ground, which, due to its unique watery yet sticky qualities, can not only drown all non-Kelp Pikmin that touch it, but also forms bubbles that envelop and trap anything that may touch them. Even the creature's footsteps can be deadly, as sometimes it may empower itself with its crystals, causing an electric shockwave with every step. The plasma from this attack can be absorbed by Wisp Pikmin, which can also harm the Tsar Bulblax but stunning its feet. Its most repulsive attack consists of it burping up clumps of rotting, undigested meat, which attracts predators such as Shearwigs, Bulborb Larvae, and Phosbats and produces a noxious cloud so long as its remains, leaving only Roach Pikmin to clean up the mess. A close second to that is the Tsar Bulblax's ability to flatulate a cloud of fire around itself that explodes when it performs a small jump, vaporizing all Pikmin caught in the blast except Elixer Pikmin.

The Tsar Bulblax's massive health pool and powerful attacks make it a force to be reckoned with, but there are strategies to making the fight more manageable. Aside from using Wisp Pikmin to keep the Tsar Bulblax in place, snagging the creature's eyestalks with the help of Kelp Pikmin will make the head easier to target. Additionally, while the Tsar Bulblax is immune to both the acid of Germ Pikmin and the explosions of charged Elixer Pikmin, the beast jumping on a charged Elixer Pikmin has the effect of flipping it over, revealing a soft, fleshy underbelly to attack. Regardless of these techniques, the fight against the Tsar Bulblax can be one of the hardest without a squad of multiple Pikmin types.

Notes

Ivy's journal

This large species of grub-dog seems to have been driven out by competition at an early age. After feeding off of just about any decaying carcass and living in a predator-free environment, this beast has grown to a massive size. The Tsar must have developed its numerous "unnatural", and frankly disgusting abilities from its disgusting scavenger lifestyle. You can only really find this massive animal feeding off of the most plentiful of kills from other grub-dogs when they've left the area, making this species an extremely rare one to sight.

Leni's recipe book

This giant grub-dog yields a mountain of meat that can feed an entire generation of Pikmin. After cleaning this beast of its revolting stench, it's best to roast the Bulblax for numerous days over a large fire. It makes a great main course for a village event.

Marvin's strategy guide

This apex predator seems nearly undefeatable with every attack at its arsenal, but nothing is undefeatable to us! I've found that charging and exploding an Elixer Pikmin with this beast's flames can cause it to fall over and reveal its evolutionary weakness! Aim for its underbelly!
