The Desert Pikmin, are a type of Pikmin available in Pikmin 44. They are found in the sixth area, Dusty Abandon, in the town section. They are a type of Hermikmin similar to Ice Pikmin and Rock Pikmin, however, they inhabit the spiny seed of a plant. This makes it incredibly difficult for enemies to shake them off when latched on, with only a few having such an ability. Desert Pikmin are the strongest Pikmin type, dealing 4x the damage of a regular Pikmin upon landing on an enemy. However, once they latch on, they cannot continue attacking and instead stay implanted in the enemy's skin without being able to deal continuous damage. They will remain stuck to that enemy until either the day ends, the enemy's corpse is destroyed upon death, or the enemy's corpse is brought back to the onion. When latched on to a corpse, Desert Pikmin will add to the total weight count of that enemy. For example, if 3 Desert Pikmin are used to kill a Bulborb they will remain on the Bulborb's corpse after its death, causing the corpse to weigh +3 more than it usually does. If the day ends and the Desert Pikmin remain stuck to an enemy corpse outside of the base's perimeter, they will perish. The sharp spines of Desert Pikmin also allow them to deal a small amount of damage when crushed to death. However, this extra damage only applies to enemies that crush Pikmin with soft bodies such as the Yellow Wollyhop. Enemies like the Scorchcake will not take any damage when crushing Desert Pikmin. Additionally, Desert Pikmin have larger, flatter feet, which allow them to walk over quicksand without sinking, unlike other Pikmin types. They can be found in Dusty Abandon's caves, created by the Desert Onion, or propagated from a Russet Candypop Bud.

In Pikmin: The Continents, the Desert Pikmin is a relative of the beach-adapted Sand Pikmin. Desert Pikmin are very adaptive to their native habitat and can survive for forty-eight hours without water. They behave identically and appear similarly to Sand Pikmin but are more hostile, hunt Desert Cradweelers, and can withstand even the most intense sandstorms.
