The Acrobat Flipgrouper is an enemy in Pikmin: Interstellar Cryptid. It is a small, dunkleosteus-like fish with blue, armor-like skin striped with white. It has a green eye and a paddle-like tailfin. Like its larger relative, the Loafing Flipgrouper, it often is seen resting on its belly at the seabed. When approached by leaders and Pikmin, it will display a disturbed facial expression and use its tail to flip backward through the water. Although they may seem like nothing but fodder, they have mild strategic use: carnivorous enemies like Blue Bulborbs will try to eat them like Pikmin, taking five seconds to chew and swallow them due to their armor. This can offer a nice distraction in times when combat is difficult. Furthermore, if the enemy eating the Acrobat Flipgrouper is interrupted, such as if a Blue Bulborb's eyes are attacked or if a Grubchucker is forcefully knocked over, the Acrobat Flipgrouper will be released unharmed, allowing for further use of the individual creature.

Notes

Olimar's notes

A particularly timid species of smaller fish, the Acrobat Flipgrouper feeds on algae and sea grass. Despite its minimal diet, it has a high metabolism, thus allowing it to spend most of its time in a period of rest. If threatened, it will use its strong abdominal muscles to fling itself backward, away from its would-be aggressor. This would be relatively useful had it not been for the fact that it's near the bottom of the food chain, meaning it's targeted by pretty much everything.

Louie's notes

Lay down a tray of nachos, and layer a bed of shredded cheese over them. Add chunks of this creature's meat, jalapeño peppers, black olives, and salsa, and throw it in the oven. Accompany the ensuing appetizer with fresh guacamole and sour cream!

Bentley's notes

I've been trying to see how far I can chase this creature... It's admittedly only for a short time before I tire, but exercise is always up my alley!

Eloise's notes

What might be the one and only creature on this planet that fears even Pikmin. I kinda feel bad for it as a result.
