Attacks Crushes, corrodes, and blows away Pikmin

The Gatorgull is a miniboss in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers. It resembles a bizarre cross between a pelican and a dinosaur, with a head and upper body covered in white feathers, a mohawk of pink feathers on its head, and two lizard-like eyes. The lower half of its body and some of its neck are bare, revealing reptilian skin beneath, which is grey and covered in scales and scutes. Its gular pouch is pink and speckled with white, resembling a green anole's dewlap.

The Gatorgull is the second miniboss of Creature's Quay, alongside the Tropical Cannon Beetle. If the leaders and Blue Pikmin go to a seemingly deserted island in the ocean, the Gatorgull will swoop in and attack. Since its mouth is too unwieldy for catching small organisms, it cannot eat Pikmin. Instead, it uses its massive, scaly feet to step all over them. Occasionally, the Gatorgull will begin to make gagging motions as fumes come from its mouth. The squad must move out of the way before it spits up a massive, orange blob of incandescent acid that slowly spreads across a small area of land and eventually evaporates. This attack is similar to the Tropical Sparrowhead's and is also based on the giant petrel. Occasionally, the Gatorgull will take flight again, using its massive wings to blow over Pikmin upon takeoff.

The Gatorgull has immense defense, even moreso on its feathered areas due to the extra padding. Because of this, it can take quite a while to defeat it. However, its simple attack strategies mean it's easy to avoid mass Pikmin casualties. The Gatorgull doesn't actually die when defeated. Instead, it hacks and coughs up its treasure before flying away.

Notes

Olimar's notes

It's common knowledge that birds evolved from dinosaurs, but this specimen appears to go backward. Members of the aerasite family are fairly ancient beasts, but with this one in particular, it looks like a dinosaur without the feathers. Perhaps this is an example of atavism taking course and bringing back the more primal part of the avian branch? Due to this evolutionary recession, it is cold-blooded and requires high temperatures to survive.

Louie's notes

For the kids, cut this creature's meat into all sorts of shapes and bread them before frying. Any sauce works with it!

Ship's comments

I can't tell who's got it worse: this guy, or the company President. And no, I'm not talking about their well-beings, I'm talking about the balding. I'm just glad we didn't actually slay it, that means I don't have to store this one.
