The Mortar Wogpole is an enemy in Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers. It is the juvenile form of the Mortar Wollywog, which it is exclusively found with, living within holes in its parent's back like a developing suriname toad larva. It resembles a Wogpole, having a similar skin color and eyes to its adult counterpart. It also has dark spots on its head and a stony growth on its face.
Three Mortar Wogpoles are always found alongside Mortar Wollywogs. Their parental guardian will fire them out of the holes in its back, with the Mortar Wollywogs flying like cannonballs in the air. If the Mortar Wogpoles land a direct hit on Pikmin, the Pikmin will be crushed between them and the ground. The Mortar Wogpoles will then scamper back to their parents for safety. If a Mortar Wogpole is killed in front of its parent, the Mortar Wollywog will become enraged and actively try to squash Pikmin itself. If the Mortar Wollywog is killed before the Mortar Wogpoles, they may try to run away from Pikmin, often to another Mortar Wollywog if one is in the area.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “The offspring of a Mortar Wollywog develop a chitinous growth on the frontal end of its face. Tightly nestled inside massive cavities within its parent's back, the growth on its body serves as a lid to its dwelling. If the Mortar Wollywog wishes to, it can also use them as a makeshift defense mechanism. By clenching these holes in its body while they're filled with water, normally used to moisturize its young and keep them respirated, it can launch the Mortar Wogpoles like mortar rounds. The hard growth on its face falls off at a certain age.”
Louie's notes
- “If you want something that really hits the spot, tempura-frying this creature is absolutely on-point! Be careful you don't leave the hard growth on before cooking.”
Ship's comments
- “I've seen them nestled within their parents' backs before, and it's as rancid as it sounds.”
